Okay, I think I've got this posting thing down. Here's the Hardee's car I built years ago using the old standby AMT kit with JNJ Decals. I used the color info on the JNJ sheet, Testor's #1211 Dark Blue. The model's blue paint is actually a little darker than in the photo. Did JNJ get the color right on this? I know it ran as a black car at some time, but couldn't find anything on the blue car back then. Sandy

The black car ran at Indy as part of the Ghostbusters Movie promotion.

Really sweet. I especially like the engine detail and choice of colors for the engine and compartment.

Nice build! I seem to recall it ran in orange & white as well. I'm pretty sure it was orange and white when Pancho flew it upside down at Indy. Got a picture of that somewhere, I'll try to find it.

Thanks guys. Hey Brian, I'd sure like to see a picture of the orange and white car. The cars from this era really were some sharp looker's! Sandy

Sandy - Just got a new printer/scanner/fax/copier combo, haven't got it hooked up yet. As soon as I do I'll scan my pics in for you. If you don't see them in a week or so, PLEASE remind me!

Brian, many thanks! What a hellacious wreck! My info is a little thin from that era, so I hope he was able to walk away from this. It's a real nice paint scheme. Might be do-able with some of the decals I have left over. Also, thats a great reference shot of the bottom for anyone building a car from this era. Sandy

I have a friend who lived next to Pancho and he told me Pancho was fine. He told my friend he just kept moving his head as best he could so his helmet wouldn't get rubbed clear through. I guess he had about three spots that were rubbed pretty thin.

Sandy Your right about this picture being a great view of the undertray. Its next to impossible to get a good view of the underside of these cars. One thing to note, this is an 87 March, so you probably want to start out with the AMT 86 March kit as a starter. RussD

Hey Brian!
I remeber watching as this one happened. I thought, "Oh, he's going to feel that in the morning!" Pancho was lucky with this one. It kind of reminds me a little of when Gordon Smiley hit the wall, which is, in my own opinion....the worst one car crash in Speedway History. That was a bad one!
Best to you
Russ

I was there the day Gordon was killed. I only saw the newspaper photos until a few months ago and saw the wreck on You Tube. I have a photo I took of Gordon sitting in his car the day before he died. Makes a person take pause when things like this happen.

I still have the tape I made of the ABC Broadcast. I was going to erase it, but Bob Clindisnt who help clean the mess up told me not to. He said it will be many a day until you see on that bad again at the Speedway.
Best to you

I hope we never see one like that again. Man, you and Bob need to get together and write a book. You both have way to many stories to tell.
