Has anyone built Bill J's 69 winner? I've gotten great help from Cal on the 80 winner and also great help from Russ on the 77 winner. I was hoping for some insight from the group on Mario's lone winner. Thanks.

Hi, I bult that kit a while back. Fill all of the holes on the bottom as well as anywhere else you might find them. I use the Alclad primer to prime any resin parts after washing them in a dishwashing detergent. The finish color is California poppy Red, a lacquer, which is available from "Model Car World", and is supposed to be an exact match. I added seatbelts. All of the chrome parts were primed and painted using the Alclad system. After painting the chrome parts, you should handle them with gloves. Your hands have oils and acids that will eventually remove the paint. Good luck. Take your time, and I'm sure you will have a beautiful model to be proud of. Regards, Wrencher.

I have to seriously disagree on that color, unless there is something very misleading about the name California Poppy Red; The Hawk was dayglo red. Tamiya TS36 Fluorescent red over white primer.
For the front suspension I used the front suspension from the Gurney/Hulme MPC Olsonite Eagle kit, and installed it upside down. For the engine and rear suspension I used the Olsonite kit also, pretty much straight out of the kit.

That's the advice I was looking for. Thanks. I knew the color was wrong from Wrencher. Maybe he was thinking of the 77 winner. It seems this kit isn't very popular on the forum. I expected a better response.

Yeah, Foyt's 67 and 77 winners were poppy red. Here's my build.

You are right I was thinking of the '67 winner. I stand corrected. Wrencher.

That's a great looking build. I'm not by any means questioning the final results, but how did you come to the decision to mount the front suspension upside down?

That's a great looking build. I'm not by any means questioning the final results, but how did you come to the decision to mount the front suspension upside down? Unequal length suspension? Can't find my open box but that would explain why something would work better upside down. HTH Jordan

The 68 Eagle has the sway bar on the top. The 69 Hawk had it on the bottom - so I took the top front suspension piece from the Eagle and used it for the bottom on the Hawk. Also upon further review, I used part of the rear suspension for the top arms of the front suspension. So the front suspension is a real mish-mash of the front and rear Eagle suspensions.

Thanks. Mish-mash, I like that.
