I'm just talking here. But my question is, do you think the 2012 car needs to be done in 1/25 resin? I know that it will be coming out in 1/18 die cast but is 1/25 scale needed?

The 2012 car could be one of the body kits going forward? The real question is what will the future bring when the market for body kits opens up. Past experience suggests a gravitation to the single fastest package, however that will hopefully not occur so the much sought after visual variety can prosper. I cannot see a Lotus branded car, for example, using anything other than a Lotus body kit. One would expect them to evolve a kit that will work as best they can rather than compromise the brand. As for others, who knows where things will go? We could always wait until 2014 and then go back and look at how things play out to find an answer to your question. Trying to gauge an immediate demand for the latest Indycar as a kit had never been an easy task. And its not like we don't have other kits to build! Once you get past the latest Indy500 winner most of what seems to be popular is the older/differently shaped car designs from the days of more rather than fewer design approaches!
cheers

I think so - I mean it is an Indy car and it is very significant. Don't think there is any way it comes out in plastic unless the series really takes off. We can hope, but I'm not holding my breath. I think it will be up to you resin artisans to fill the need. Hopefully there will be high interest in the "new" series and that will drive the demand and make it worthwhile. Would I build one? Probably.

I believe that a 1/25 scale Indy car will be needed at some point. Look at how long we waited for some of the other holes to be filled from over the years, thanks to our Resin aces out there. Now it looks like we have another gap starting with no 2012 car on the horizon for 1/25 or 1/24 scale or 1/43 for that matter. I wish no ill will on our 1/18 scale modelers either. I am glad to see that Greenlight has elected to step back into the limelight of Indy cars.
I was sort of surprised that a major model company did not pick up on the Dallaras from at least 2005 to 2011. I believed they missed out on the boat on that one. They could’ve kitted the kit every year for six years and just changed the decals and box art for each Indy winner. I’m surprised one of the major Japanese companies didn’t do that with extra sprews added each year for the minor changes! Maybe they were just scared of the Revell diecast that was released or the excuse that I always heard from model companies in the early 90s, is that the change in Indy cars was too drastic from year to year. Now this year we start with a new chassis. It would be wonderful to see a new 2012 DW Indy car in kit form! However, I believe we are going to have to rely on one of great resin aces out there to come to our rescue again!

Like it or not, and I don't, this is just too narrow a market for the companies to dive into. It's just a sign of the times. It seems to simple but no one is doing it.

Here is a picture of the 1/18 Greenlight DW12 that Ralph sent me. I am sure that the some modifications will have to be made to be totally accurate like the old Dallara but to me it looks pretty darn close. Stu [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/DW12.jpg" img]

No hope of Hot Wheels doing it in 1/24th?
Calvin, if you decide there is a market for a 1/25th scale kit I might be able to help you with plans providing my buddy Stu doesn't have building plans for his 1/18th scale model yet.

Revell is one of my clients and they will not do indycars because they just don't sell in the numbers needed. But you might see a 1/32 Watson Roadster slot car in the future.

Unless Indycar starts to get more popular I really dont see a plastic injection kit being produced. Just think, the nascar model builders barley can get a current nascar kit from AMT.

I like the new car. I hope the series will regain the greatness it once had. The race yesterday was kind of dull, but that could be the track and the first race of the season. It will get better!

I really like the cars. Plus they look even better when you look at the platypus noses in F1

Plus they look even better when you look at the platypus noses in F1 I don't know Michael, the cars look a little off balance and funny with the thin front end and a rather large rear end!!! Sort of has a pear shape to it. They all look like they could use a good workout with those big fat arses!!! Sorta' reminds me of that old Queen song, something about "fat bottom girls!"

A few people on another forum said that the new cars have too much body work. After I studied last years Dallara to the DW12, I dont have any hard proof but it looks to me the DW12 has less body work (combined Sq Inch) than the old car?

I also think people are having a hard time getting used to it because since the chaparral 2k the side pods on indycars have been roughly the same (a square box shape). The DW12 IMO is the biggest change in how an indycar looks since the Chaparral 2k. But what I said above might be pretty arguable? Thats why I said it. What do you think?

It would be nice to expect the same from the new Dallara! Jim

Should be interesting to see how/if the body work changes for low/high speed ovals. I'm not sure I've seen what the oval front wings look like.

So.....what did you guys think of the new car after watching it race? I know this is an old thread, but thought I would reply anyway. after watching a full season, I have only one word for you: BORING. while some of the racing was good, the cars are BORING. they're all the same....outside of colors and a few minor changes, THEY'RE ALL THE SAME! I want to see different chassis', engines, tire manufacturers, etc. why do you think we all go ga-ga over all the resin kits of the old cars? because they're different. 40-50 years from now, you think anyone will be begging Lance for a 2012 Dallara? I don't think so. VARIETY is the spice of life....and that goes for racing too!

I presume with all the upheaval in Indy car leadership that Chevy and Honda won’t introduce their own body kits for the 2013 season? That was part of the original plan for these new cars. I was looking forward to the cars not all looking the same.

Who knows what 2013 will bring. Guess we will wait for the season opener to know for sure but it seems all changes are off until 2014. I know that Gary Doucette is focused on the cars from the 1930s-1960s but I did mention to him that I thought there would be support for a 124 or 1/25 2012 Dallara. He did not seem too excited but it might be interesting to know what kind of interest there is out there. Some of us who in touch with Gary could let him know. Just a thought. Jim
