Following the post of the Humble Motorsport Museum I thought you might be interested in seeing this!
Apologies for hijacking the Virtual Indy Museum but it seems the best place to put this and I do think it will be of interest to some of the visitors as well a regulars to the Forum.
The Motor Museum in Miniature, or MMIM for short, came about by accident back in the mid 1990s when my father and I were new to the show scene in the UK having only recently becoming members of IPMS, and our local branch in Stafford. We took more than enough models with us to Midlands show and as the organisers had a "none attendance" we were offered the space and duly filled it up. It was a big hit and we had invitations to attend other show and bit by bit the display evolved to become the MMIM.
.
Consisting of three halls we can display my fathers road cars, my race cars and have centre hall were we combine our models under a theme. Either a make, a country or a subject like back to front (road cars with the engine in the back and race cars with the engine in the front, contrary to modern thinking!)
.
.
.
As the museum theme grew we started adding other displays, a kiosk and visitor figures. Many of the additional displays have been scratch built by my father.
.
like this display of road signs maps and even a satnav, if you can spot it.
We have a series of fuel pumps, drivers in the various racing attire of their day, helmets and model, model cars in display cases! The latest addition my Dads built is a fire extinguisher point with extinguishers and a hose reel.
The whole thing has gotten a little out of hand as we cannot attend all the shows we get invites to any more. So we put it on the Internet and face book, which brings us into the virtual museum area.
One of the things that is crucial to our modeling philosophy is sharing with others. We are always willing to answer questions and learn more about modeling. Something we have in common with the Forum.
I hope the concept is of interest and I have plenty more pictures of the museum and displays if you would like to see them.
