Hi. Some time ago I remember reading about a rig someone built to quickly (key word, Quickly) sand the mold lines off of tires and scuff them up for the realistic used look. It had some cone shaped holders that you put the tire between. It had nuts (no jokes please!) to lock it all in place and it had a shaft running though it. You'd chuck the shaft in a drill and with it spinning you could easily sand and true the tire. I was at a auto parts and hardware store yesterday looking at possible items to jury-rig this thing. But nothing really stood out as the best and brightest way to go. Is anyone familiar this rig and if so what parts were used to make it? Sandy

I'm not sure about that tool, but I use a socket adapter, the one that allows you to use a small socket with a large wratchet. I put the small end in a cordless screwdriver and put the tire over it. Then I spin it on a sheet of 400 sandpaper. Now that works on the "tread" part of the tire. For the sides I use a small piece of sandpaper and use good old-fashioned elbow grease. I read in this forum, from DukeCador I think, that he uses a sanding stick to wear off the raised letters. I also got a great tip from someone (sorry that I can't remember who) that buffing the sides on denim gives it a good sheen and the tire decals or the dry transfers will have a smooth surface to sit on. All the tips I got have worked real well for me and it's further proof that the guys here are the smartest, best model builders anywhere.
