OK, this probably won't be a fast build, you know me, but I thought I might document some of my progress on the 1957 Belond Spl. I received the kit from Rick in December, and started work a couple weeks ago. Here's most of what you get. This is a nice looking kit. The wheels/tires aren't shown because those are in "the paint shop." The decals weren't included, but are readily available from Michael at Indycals. Also, the seat isn't shown because I'm grinding on that pretty good, and the windscreen isn't there either. It might have been in the original kit and I just lost it. Work is progressing on the rear end housing. I drilled out the hole, and fabricated a new axle out of aluminum tube. I'm also making a transmission to go in the cockpit. It's probably nowhere near accurate, but at least it will "look like" a transmission, and serves to fill a bit of a void. Updates as events warrant!

I drilled a small hole to a small strip of styrene and glued in a bit of thin rod, then glued the entire assembly to the front suspension insert. My thinking is I can hang the front axle on this, giving myself a wee bit of wiggle room to get everything level. I added a bit of sheet styrene to the front of the cockpit just to make it a bit smaller and give a flat surface to attach my "transmission" and possibly some (admittedly inaccurate) pedals. I used my Dremel to grind out some room for the rear housing to sit nicely. And I added this little detail to the back. (Thanks to Calvin for pointing that out in his WIP, I might have missed that!)

Looking good Scott. It's gratifying to see something that was once resin in a bottle in my garage being massaged so well into a first rate build-up. Keep it up.

Thanks for sharing all of this. I have this on my "to build" list in the near future and your pictures are really helpful. Please continue to share as you go. Jim

What is that "little detail" in the back? It's very interesting.

rick: Thanks. You did include a windscreen, didn't you? And I just lost it? @john: It appears to be a vent of some sort. It doesn't show up super great in this photo, Calvin's shows it better. I've got a pic of the actual car somewhere that shows it. I just used a scriber to dig in a bit and open it up.

Awesome! Looks like you are going good on this one. If you have any questions I have mine pretty well figured out.

Yes I included a windscreen in the kit. No problem though I'll mail you a replacement.

Progress really slowed down when the weather got so unseasonably warm there for a bit. It was nice to get outside with the kids and just play a bit. And next week is spring break, so we're heading to Florida so grandma and grandpa can see them.
Anyway, I need to get a picture, but this week I did glue the scratch-built transmission in and some pedals I pulled out of an old NASCAR kit. Not necessarily accurate, but it gives a good impression for anyone who peeks down there.
I'm also happy with how the seat is turning out, but need to put a seat belt on, I think. I'm guessing this just had a lap belt? Probably red or black? Anyone have any idea?

Scott None of my photos show the seat belt on the 57 car, however photos of the 58 Belond show black shoulder harness straps, so I assume ( always dangerous) that the belts are also black. The car is looking good. Take Care Craig

Good shot, Craig, thanks. Looking at it made me think of another detail I really have never put on - valve stems. Hmmm.
