I had hoped the 2012 Lotus would remain in the traditional Green and Yellow but it looks like they have adapted the new/old Black and Gold livery.. Nice but not quite the same.. ... Chris from todays test session..

I'm still on the fence with this one, I want to like it, I miss the pointy nose, throw a '92 galmer nose on that thing, we'd be good

We stopped at Sebring, while towing back from Homestead, today. They were testing some Indy cars. There was a Verizon car, the #10 Target car, a carbon fiber car that only said Honda and #77, there was a car with a medium blue bottom, white top, and gold Chevy bowties and no #, and finally a grey and white car with what looked like red Salvation Army shields on it, but no #.
Then the went on lunch break and we had to get back on the road.
Sports cars have fenders. Formula cars have open wheels. What are these?

The jury is still out for me, from what I have seen so far, I am calling them a mistake. Take Care Craig

Just as in 1975, gold on black doesn't photograph well. The markings are nearly impossible to see at certain angles.

IMO more people are sentimental towards the British Green Lotus in Indycar racing. I'm personally not attracted to the black and gold in indycar, that's a special F1 scheme.

Some of the new liveries are great, but what's that line about putting lipstick on a pig?

Please get rid of that airbox. Nose is fine, not sure about those fenders. These look a lot like the Danny On-the-gas 'batmobiles.'

I concur, they need to come up with something a little better before race season starts. Black and gold looks great on a model kit, but not so good on a real car when gold can absorb all the colors around it on the track. I admit, the cars right now look like some bizarro world version of an Indycar, but given a chance to grow and if they sound good in a race, I can grow to like them.

That color scheme with team Lotus in the late 70's and in the 80's was totally awesome. The 79 Black Beauty still is one of the best looking cars in history. The Provemi/Dutch Boy Dick Simon car was also fun to have watched. Wasn't that Gold actually a bisque color?

I don't love the new car's look but if it races well then I'll love it for being a great car. I'm mostly excited about the engine competition. I think Lotus will be way behind (might never catch up?) while I see Honda with the early advantage but Chevy able to rival the Honda sometimes - especially as the year progresses.

Wasn't that Gold actually a bisque color? It was gold from 1972-1975, but as I noted above, gold on black does not photograph well, so they changed it to a biscuit color, which is what I think they should do with the current car since gold on black still doesn't photograph well.
