My year ago, bought off long time friend son a few kits and one. 1946 winner glue bomb painted awful color tugerouis green. The wrong color. Worst still, grill only miss match srceen. Since the display at Indianapolis Hall of Fame needs a 1946 winner, not do this one. My first step do add vollerue on both sides by engine. I also trip the sickie sand paper use cover the opening cockpit opening and the bottom and put proper brass piece and a transmission. This model as a mess....Well, this easy anyone do it. More to come! Best to you! Russ

I was doing a little research on this car (harder than hell to find anything on it) But after seeing the exhaust cut out on this body and the two exhaust pipes made me wonder about the engine. Before I just assumed it was a 4 cylinder, but actually its a 6- cylinder (sparks engine). I also learned that this 46' Thorne car dynoed 412 HP at 7,200 rpm. But it was never revved above 6,500 on the track and rarely exceeded 15-psi boost.

I used a six cylinder exhaust manifold from a Jaguar to make it look more accurate. I too had to make a grill without much success. These cars were fast from the first time they appeared at Indy in 1938. They were driven by some of Indy's best at the time: Jimmy Snyder, Rex Mays, and Ted Horn. Karl Ludvigsen"s "Indy Cars of the 1940s" has some excellent pictures of these cars over a 10 year period. Jim

With any glue-bomb, you find your parts The brake drums from a OLD Hawk Indy Mercedes kit...The from suspension from a Monogram Edmond's Dirt Car kit.
Best to you!
