Hello all, I just joined the forum and posted in the intro board. I'm looking forward to participating and seeing all the great work on here. Hopefully I can learn a lot and contribute myself. Lately, I've been working on a few 1/32 slot cars - I hope it's OK to discuss slot car modeling in this forum. This is a 1962 Cooper Mk3 T59 Formula Junior, modified from an old slot car. Cheers, The original car Parts waiting for final assembly The reworked model With modern helmet Vintage style helmet

Welcome aboard. Beautiful work! What did you use for the rivets at the base of the windscreen?

Thanks kurzheck. The rivets are solder balls. They are surprisingly uniform and spherical.

What a fantastic result, really impressive. I would be worried about putting on the track though. But then you probably have more skill than me with the hand controller! Regards, Steve.

Very nice work sir! I wish there was a Scalectric 1/24 Lotus 20! I am interested in the small formula cars and your Cooper is well done. Nice addition of the camera on the roll bar!

Remarkable transformation. I wouldn't have looked at the model in the first photo twice, but you made a show stopper out of it.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I wish there was a Scalectric 1/24 Lotus 20! Yes, they don't make the Lotus 20 in 1/24 - only in 1/32. That exact model is my next project. As you may know, Scalextric does make the Lotus 38 in 1/24, but they are expensive collectors items.

What paint did you use for the Cooper. It is very close to the green that many cars wore here in the SCCA SF Region!

What an amazing transformation! It must be going to a modern historic event, it even has a muffler!

Thanks John! You are correct, this car was modified to represent a Cooper T59 as it might be prepared today for vintage racing. When the real T59s were made in 1962, they didn't have much in the way of decoration or safety equipment. This T59 slot car was first released in 1963, and as you can see, it didn't have much decoration either. So I thought it would be fun to bring this old model up to modern specifications. The muffler is so the car can race at Laguna Seca, which has draconian noise limits. It comes off when the car runs at Goodwood.
