I took a new 1953 Carousel 1 KK along with some parts from a basket case 54 donor car and made my own 1954 winner. Prices are crazy for the Carousel 1 version of the 54 and of course C1 totally missed on the paint color. I stripped and painted the 54 with 3 parts white and 1 part grey to create what i believe is the correct shade of white. (White with a touch of grey) I added photoetch fasteners and dulled and weathered the seat. Also used decals from Indycals and clear coated it. Replaced the C1 rubber hood straps with strips of leather and photoetch buckles. I love it! Just think, Vuky could of easily been a 4 in a row winner if it wasn't for some bad luck and some very very bad luck.  |

Which car did you use for the donor? Was there any mods necessary other than paint and decals? I've considered this same solution for the '54 since they are outrageous to buy.

Trevor, I used the dark grey 1953 C1 Vuky as the donor. The 53 & 54 are basically the same except the 54 had a shorter hood (width wise) and bulge on the left side where the intake mainifold is. I have been out of town the last few days but I will email you a comparison pic tomorrow. There are a few other small things but not too bad and I can help you.

The reason I asked is because I've considered using the '52 which is less expensive to come by. I will need to do some research and see if that is a comparable car. I thought that Vuky raced the same car from 52-54 with the crew chief making some mods from year to year. I realize in 55 he drove the Hopkins cars because the Keck streamliner wasn't finished in time and was planned to be used in 56.
