Yes, it's such a shame that the oval tracks are dwindling, soon we'll have a somewhat Americanized F1 spec racing. I think this the same formula that lead to the demise of Champ car. Yes the split also helped, but I don't want to go there. Personally, I would like to see a healthy and growing Indycar. I think that's what always made Indycar different from other motor sports, by having a healthy mix of Speedway, short ovals, road courses, street courses, and even runway courses.
Whatever happened to the fun little tracks like Langhorn, which was a complete circle or Trenton, a kidney shaped oval. I don't even see Phoenix or Milwaukee on the schedule anymore, those were always great tracks for Indy Cars. Those tracks used to be the staple of Indycar racing. I even enjoyed Nazareth, even though it was hard to pass. I even think of the super speedways that used to be so much fun such as Michigan, Fontana(replaced Ontario) and Pocono. Aaahh! The memories of the triple crown. (Yes, someone slap this guy and bring him back to his senses!)
I guess the difference is, instead being a home based, investing in America type of Indy Car racing it used to be. Indy Car is going global as seen by going to China.(Yes, slap him upside of the head!) I guess I live too much in the past, but those good ole days certainly seemed like the days when it seemed there were no limits to what Indy cars could do! I yearn for those days again!

Well, that is at least 8 more chances for me to work on my golf game. The begining of the end of open wheel racing, so sad. Take Care Craig

Beginning of the end of open wheel racing? There's plenty of open wheel racing in PA and IN that far surpasses anything IndyCar could produce.

I hear ya. Also, what does it say when an owner who cut his teeth on dirt tracks and came up through to win 4 Indy 500's has a Brazilian driver?

Pretty pathetic schedule. Milwaukee needs to be there as well as Road America. IMO Sonoma is a horrible road track. It should also be pointed out that the Baltimore race is in jeopardy as the promoters are having a hard time paying off this year's debt.
Just a lot of bad karma here in December. Newman-Hass not running a team, dismal new car tests and now this schedule. About the only positive thing lately is the firing of Barnhart. Hope we can have some good news soon.

To add one more issue, Indycar has announced they are NOT returning to Las Vegas in 2012.

Sad state of affairs it seems for Indycar racing in the future, I am not saying the series is going to implode, but the future is looking pretty grim. 3 Ovals is a low, low number. Milwaukee a week after the "500" should be on the calendar, as well as Phoenix, and I totally agree, Sonoma is a stupid place for Indycars to run at. Leave that for drag-racing & Stock cars.

Losing Vegas and any of the cookie-cutter NASCAR tracks is fine with me. Milwaukee, Loudon, Phoenix and Richmond should appear on the schedule. Still do not comprehend why Road America does not have Indycar. It is the finest road track in North America.
Texas, Vegas and Sonoma IMO are the result of IndyCar trying to be like NASCAR. We need to go back to the roots of OW...flat 1 mile ovals and true road racing venues.
