Might be old news but Greenlight is tooling the 2012 Indycar. No details available as yet. They may produce a Wheldon IZOD test car.

Sorry, but i think the 2012 Dallada is BUTT UGLY . . . I'm starting to feel the same way. Initially, I thought they were pretty cool. Maybe with enough lipstick, they will look better?

I still think it's better looking than the current car. I am looking forward to working with some fresh metal too. I just wonder how accurate the Greenlight will be.
With Barnhart out of the race control picture and the old Dallara gone, it pretty much opens a new era and a fresh outlook.
2013 will open the flood gates with new aero add-ons too so I see the potential.

I still think that there should be several manufactures, what ever aero kit works will be used on all cars so they will all look alike anyway. I still favor a "run what you brung" formula with as little rules as possible.

I like the new car. They'll get the problems sorted out.

And to think 50 years ago they thought Jack Brabham's car was 'funny.'

Rick, you are correct, it doesn't have to look good it just has to be fast!

Very few race cars are good right out of the box. A lot of times bad handling race cars create interesting races.

I really do not know what I think of the new car yet, some aspects appeal to me and some do not.

I can't help but get the same feeling I got when USAC developed the new "Silver Crown" pavement car a few years ago. It quickly developed the moniker "Silver Clown" car. It had the rear wheel attenuaters or whatch-ya-ma-call-its as well. I first saw that car at the PRI show in 2005 and I'll never forget what the guy next to me said. "Thing looks like something my nine-year-old drew."
I guess in the end if the new car produces some b_ tchin' racing then that would go as far as helping overlook any aesthetic shortcomings.

I'm on the fence whether I like it or not, it certainly has potential, the nose of the car reminds me of 89/90 Ferrari F1, It would look better if the nose was pointier, not so flat. Will be interesting to see how they look racing at speed on an oval.

I've seen the car test at Indy. It looks better in person than photos.

Its a tough call but we all have to remember the 1997 irl car... ugly and bulky the car took a while to become beautiful because it was a clean sheet of paper, as is the DW12. we became complacent with the old car we had and now change is to much for some, not enough for others. If the car only goes 218 in qualifying at indy, so be it, your face is not on the trophy for winning the pole. John Menard can attest to that! Time will make the car faster and help the balance out the push.

I disagree. That last Panoz looked good but was a pig to set up. I liked the 2nd generation Dallara as well.

I read an article from Marshall Pruitt on Speed.com that said they cut some corners when they did their CFD work. The car didn't react the way the model said it would.

Always liked this design, it was called a "Falcon", designed in 2002 for the IRL but the plug ended up being pulled on the project.

I would love to see that air scoop taken off the roll cage. No reason why a 2011 Turbo needs that. Let's go back to the 90's Lola look. Don't mind the looks of the car Lance posted.

Ahhh the Falcon, M. Kranefuss ( Ford Racing Supremo for years) and Ken Anderson ( Gannasi Racing), 2003 too bad it was never fitted witha engine and run it does have its appeal, diaheadral front wing ala F1 and some nice angles on the sidepods... Chris

I don't like the 2012 car really but probably because I never really didt care for any of the proposals. I wish IndyCar would put out a rulebook and a price cap then open it up to all chassis manufacturers saying if you can build it and sell it at $x or under then show up at the speedway. And even though this will sound very un-Penske fan like, all manufacturers should have to supply at least 5 or so cars on the grid if there is demand (so no one team can have exclusive access to any chassis).
I'm not a big fan of closing in fenders and cockpits, but I'm also not a fan of drivers dying so I am at a loss on that subject.
