Making good progress on the SEF white metal kit of the ERA. I am building 'Remus' from the White Mouse racing team owned by the famous Siamese Princes. The figure is supposed to be Raymond Mays, in fact it is the Renaissance Jean Pierre Wimile figure that comes with their Bugatti 'Tank' but I am painting the overalls brown much as Mr Mays would wear. Still thinking about colour for cap and gloves. Any suggestions on that would be most welcome. I have added mirror housings and drilled the cooling vents in the drums. The springs have been wrapped with cotton also. I have had to paint the Siamese flags and will attempt to hand paint some tiny white mice on the mirror housings. Pics of the progress so far. Regards, Steve.

Thanks John, I am really enjoying the build. Also, just realised I put the Wimille figure as being Renaissance, it should be LeMans miniatures! Apologies to LMM for that boo boo.
Steve.

I love it. I want a SEF ERA, too. Especially the figure...perhaps the best I've ever seen. I don't know if I ever got around to posting these. Sorry if I did.

Thanks for the positive responses Gents. Great pics Patrick, I used your close up of the mirror to paint the white mouse by hand, a brave attempt anyway. Body is now decalled and protected with 2K clear. Decals are a mixture of masked and painted markings with race numbers from the parts box and my stash of Pattos decal sets. I am dealing with issues as they arise. The brake drums on the real car are finned but the kit parts are smooth. I settled on scribing small strips of plastic card and super glued these around the drums. This also helps to fill out the wheel backs as well. Difficult to make out the scribing here but after some paint..... A wash of black will intensify the effect hopefully. You may be able to make out the shape of a white mouse in this pic, parts sprayed with clear and drying. Finally, I have just rested the bits together for a mock-up shot. All the best, Steve.

Agreed! The figure looks like a lot of different characters. The other one I thought he could look like is Malcolm Campbell the famous LSR builder/driver. The figure is supposed to be Jean Pierre Wimille but looks nothing like the pics of him that I have seen.

Hi Gary, these are still available from the manufacturer, South Eastern Finecast in the UK. Bear in mind, the wheels I have used cost extra although the ones supplied are acceptable. Hth. Steve.

Remus is finished. The Raymond Mays figure got painted on the advice of a mate of mine with more knowledge than me. I have added the brake rods, a few scale hardware bolt heads to the chassis and part of a '40 Ford rear axle in the cockpit to represent the drive train. Rear seat cowl is masking tape and P/E clips. There are a few other bits n bobs added to parts to add a bit more detail. A bit of 'smoke and mirrors' for the front brakes, the intake vents are srips of black decal which look convincing from a distance. I am very happy with this build as I have wanted an ERA in my cabinet for a long time. On to the pics....... Finally, a close up of the LMM figure. Hope you like this one. Regards, Steve.

Steve; Outstanding work! Very clean and a great job on the figure. Also, didn't ERA mean "English Racing Association?". Not well known "on this side of the pond" but a VERY successful English marque... Congratulations on a job well done! Tim

Hi Tim, 'English Racing Automobiles' but you were close lol. Very successful racers indeed. I am lucky enough to be able to attend Historic and Vintage race meetings several times a year. The cars are not just brought out for a jolly, there are trophies to be won and hard racing ensues. These ERA.s make a truly awesome sound and I especially like it when they line up on the grid with cars 30 years younger and still win. I'll post some pics from the pits from next season. Post any requests and I will try to take some pics if the cars in question are attending. Here is a pic of Remus that I took last April.
