All I can say is, its about time someone did this car in plastic. I've never heard of Ebbro. I'm guessing that a 72D might be next ... I hope.

According to that thread, the president of Ebbro used to work for Tamiya.

Anything I do for the 1/20 kit will be available in 1/12. But I will say this: I absolutely DESPISE cars from this era! They were completely different every single race - what a PITA!

I know what you mean. I guess when the time comes, pick a race to depict, and I'll walk down to my top secret "race research headquarters" and help you find info.

I like the car but fortunately I made a promise to myself to only build in 1/24 and 1/12 so my wallet is safe. Due to the strength of the yen these days, I can get a white metal historic race car kit for about the same as a Tamiya job. My old fashioned sensibilities still make me think plastic kits should only cost ten shillings! Steve.

Ah, 10 shillings. When Britain went decimal in 1971 I was ten yrs old. I remember my Mum gave my sister and I one of the new 50pence coins each. My Dad was upset because 50 pence was 10 old shillings (or ten bob coloquially) For this he could have bought 2 packs of cigarettes and a couple of pints of beer! I still have that 50 pence piece. lol In perspective, 50 pence (10 shillings) is about 75 US cents at current rate of exchange.

5800 Yen, that's $76. That's like twice the price of a Tamiya kit. I think I will sit this one out at least for now.

What it basically comes down to is, if a person really likes the car and if a person is going to build it right away. I dont buy models everyday, just because I'm simply not a collector so buying a $50+ F1 kit every 4 months on average is not going to hurt.

FYI- I received a newsletter from Pacific Coast Models in California announcing they are the 'exclusive distributor for US Ebbro'. They're taking pre-orders for Ebbro's Lotus 72C at $59.95 . I've heard that some of the parts are from Tamiya, but can't confirm this. www.pacmodels.com/index.phpSandy

Michael and Calvin, Of course, I am one of the guys that loves these years because of the constant innovation (or changes) that the cars went through. That's because I like the "unusual" in car types. It makes it harder for people to say, "that's not correct". For example, in 1973 there were 3 types of the Ferrari 312 B3 and 1974 gave another 2. For a research fanatic like me, that's heaven! Patrick

Why did Ebbro choose a distributor that deals exclusively with Aircraft and Military subjects? I think that severely limits the amount of market access that going with a complete distributor like say Sentai would provide, it makes very little sense... I dont think a guy who pushes Airplane kits is going to go into a hobby shop and say " Hey We got these fantastic Ebbro F1 Kits that you should buy a Dozen of!!! More than likely selling the F1 kit will be ab after thought!!! Geeeeze I spent too much time as a buyer for a retail chain!!! Chris

I saw the kit at a contest in San Jose last saturday. It looks beautiful, as nice as anything that Tamiya or Hasegawa has ever done. Ken Lawrence, the man behind Pacific Coast Models, said that Ebbro is run by a retired pattern/mold maker from Tamiya.

FYI- Pacific Coast Models is now listing the Ebbro Lotus 72 as in stock. The currrent issue of Tamiya Modeling Magazine has part one of a build of this kit. It looks real good. The author says the engine is all new and not a license produced one from Tamiya as had been rumored.
