Hi,
The new issue of Autoweek has a story on Ron Howard, yes, that Ron Howard and his new movie about the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the '76 season. No release date yet. Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") has signed to play Hunt and Daniel Bruhl will play Lauda. A/W says Lauda is 'consulting closely' on the film which it says is 'provisionally titled' "Rush".

Cool! Looking forward to that. It can't be any worse than Driven.

Cool! Looking forward to that. It can't be any worse than Driven. I really wanted to like Driven, I really did, but it was a horrible movie, the inconsistencies with using Indy lights and regular CART chassis in the movie drove me nuts. I have not seen the movie in its entirety since, and to think, it was to be based on F1.

Well, with Hunt "THE SHUNT" being dead, and Lauda "THE RAT" being a consultant, I can't believe it will be a real balanced account, but it should be well done, and entertaining. Take Care Craig

As I said, the friendship between these two was close. I would expect a balanced account because of it and Ron is that type of a director to boot!

As chance would have it Ron Howard was on TV last night talking about a film he's just released. He was asked about the upcoming F1 movie. He said it will start shooting next year meaning soon. He said he hopes to have it finished by this time next year. Howard seemed honestly excited about it and talked about the Hunt and Lauda rivalry and relationship. What's neat and will be a big plus for the movie is so many of the F1 cars of this era are still around and running in vintage events. One thing mentioned in the A/W article is having to re-creating 1970's era race circuits for the movie. Part of Howards answer to that was "I already know F1 fans are going to care about the details. It's going to matter. I'm planning to be sensitive to that".

I think i read on the top gear website, or maybe autoblog not long ago, there were shots of the '76 McLaren & Ferrari driving on the modern day Nurburgring. Looked good, making the circuits look like their 1976 counterparts will be difficult, also, what about the M@r1b0r0 logo on hunts McLaren. hmmmm

The tracks will be be an other matter. All of the tracks that were used back in 1976 have gone though major changes for safety. A lot of CGI will be used to make them look like they did back in the day.

Its great to see they've actually started filming. I'd gotten the impression that it wasn't going to start until after the first of the year. Thanks for the info,

Thanks so much for sharing that. These years, these drivers, these motor cars are what eventually evolved into contemporary motorsport. I feel I was lucky to have been involved as an enthusiast, as these were the last years that F1 was approachable by us, the crazy group that lives for racing.
I'm really looking forward to this "race movie".
