Hi everyone, So I have a couple of Tamiya T93 Lola's sitting around the house, waiting to be worked on. At first I thought I'd like to do Arie Luyendyk's '93 pole car, but now I might hold off on that and work on some paint schemes that I have not seen made before. So, I was wondering, has Scott Goodyears Mackenzie decals ever been made for his 1992 or 1993 rides from Indy? I know Senn65 has done some commission jobs for a 'collector' where he did a few cars from 1993, and I know the Scott Goodyear Mackenzie car was one of em, but it was in 1/18 diecast. Were the decals home-made? do I need an alps printer to make white decals? Problem is, of the 5 or so cars I'd like to make in the near future, the decals as yet dont exist. To the best of my knowledge anyway: # 2 Scott Goodyear - Mackenzie Lola # 27 Geoff Brabham - Menards/Glidden # 7 Danny Sullivan - Molson # 36 Stephan Gregoire - Maalox # 15 Hiro Matsushita - Panasonic Those are the 5 cars on my short list that I would like to bring to life on a Tamiya 1/20th scale Speedway Indycar. The 1993 Indy 500 is one of my all time favorite Indys, for so many reasons. I painted pretty much most of the field for the rfactor pc game a while back: heres a pic thanks. Gav

You should know that Gregoire's car was actually a 1992 Lola and was Buick powered. It's not insurmountable but they are different chassis from the 1993. The cars listed on the grid sheet all look the same because they were computer generated. On a side note, that car was used later in the year by Gordon Johncock to do the first runs touting ethanol made from corn. We ran it at the Speedway with it in the early fall. Gordy was GREAT to work with. ;D

Thanks for that info, I didn't realize Gregoire's car was a 1992 lola, I see it now looking at the picture of it at the indy website. Yes, the pic I posted, all the cars used the same car model. Which was a 1994 lola, the closest thing I could find to a 1993 lola at the time. Interesting that ethanol was being used way back then, I had no idea, thanks for that info, interesting

Gregoires car from 93 was scotty brayton's from 1992 and would be raced in 1994 as Dick Simon Racing back up and then make the race again in 1996 with paul durant driving.

That car did not run with Simon's team in 1994. The six DSR cars raced in 1994 were all Cosworths. Boesel, St. James and Matsushita had 1994 Lolas while Vitolo, Matsuda and Greco drove the 1993 Lolas.
You are right about it being Brayton's 1992 car. Didn't know that about Durant in 1996, nice to hear.

The more history I hear about this car, the more I want to make it, lol. If I do end up making it on a '93 lola, it wont be 100% accurate, because of the engine bay and engine itself...but I can live with that. I always thought that Gregoire's car was a nice paint job. He was one of the fastest rookies back in '93. Now I need Michael at Indycals to commission me some decals

Gavin,
In answer to some of your questions, I have been trying to find an old thread that had dealt with some of these decals. As luck would have it, I just can't find it. Prior to Michael's fantastic decals, there was a set four of 1/20 scale decals that I believe were commissioned by Lee Horn and I believe done by UMI. They were for the 93 Scotch Target Lola, 93 McKenzie Lola, 93 Copenhagen Lola and the 94 Valvoline Lola. All except the Foyt car seem to be for the roadcourse versions. I've never sat and tried to see if the decals would do the speedway cars. You can find them on ebay from time to time. Quite possibly someone on the site may have extras for the McKenzie car.
As a side note, again prior to Michael's decals, Up Scale Graphics also did the Randy Owens paint scheme for Buddy Lazier's car. Museum Collection made a set to do the Newman/Haas cars, speedway and road course. However, now that Michael's decals are available I believe they are better and cheaper.
I was also hoping to add to your list. When Michael was making the Valvoline decals, I was hoping he'd do the 93 version also! Of course the Galles cars were Chevy powered. Alas, it seems not to be.

That is some great info Jim, I will start looking on ebay also. So far with Michael's Indycals decals We can currently make 10 out of the 33 cars that competed in the 1993 Indy 500 #5 Mansell #6 Mario #9 Boesel #10 Luyendyk #22 Brayton #41 Gordon / Foyt 14 (last lap farewell) #20, 40 & 60 Budweiser cars #77 Piquet Since Michael recently released the '89 and '92 Valvoline decals, I was also hoping to see a 1993 set, The 1992 set may work on a 1993 Lola, but the Galmer chassis makes the stripes looked a lot more curved. Maybe one day, the 1993 Al Jr Valvoline Decals will see the light

New here. Haven't seen the Bobby Rahal Miller Genuine Draft decal sheet for the Tamiya 1993 Lola mentioned. It was part of a sheet given to IPMS Nationals participants.

I'm not sure where it is at the moment. As I remember the sheet, it had the Rahal markings and some markings for a US military plane/jet. Is that the one your referring to? It would make a pretty slick looking car. Rusty

It looks like 12 of 33 starters were running Lola-Fords There were some Lola-Chevys. I wonder if you could get a Chevy decal to stick on the engine. I suspect then engines looked pretty similar. Or you could just do a curbside version.
As I think someone already mentioned, the body work on the Lola-Buicks was significantly different.

Yeah, that's the sheet! Sounds like they were running the Chevy Cs in 1993, which BTW is the year Rahal DNQ. One won, but the next 6 finishers were Cosworths. The C is at the bottom of this page: 8w.forix.com/penske-mercedes-pc23-ilmor.htmlI imagine one could mod a XB and print the piece on a color printer... Tom

I would love to have decals for Rahal's 94 Penske car at Indy! I guess the set shown above would go a long way. What scale are they in?
As far as the Kodalux car, Hayhoe ran a 92 Lola all season long, using a Chevy A engine until Indy, in which they used the Ford XB. After Indy they used the Chevy A until Portland. After Portland the Ford was utilized for the rest of the season. The 92 Lola is slightly different than the 93 Lola.

The sheet is from the 1997 IPMS convention. I have no idea what the other decals on the sheet are for (I know some of it is for military aircraft) specifically. The Miller GD decals go with the 1:20 Tamiya Duracell Lola T9300. I had to BEG my local shop owner to let me buy one from him.

OK Thanks to the great pic posted by Rusty I identified the manufacturer and found them on-line still in business. I explained that a dozen or so people on this Forum would be interested in the Lola MGD set and wanted to know if they still had some or could make some... I also showed myself as the promoter of the So Cal NNL , hoping to add a bit of weight to my request so we shall see what they have to say!!!! Chris

Chris!
Great idea!!!! I have a PM out to a decal producer RE the Miller GD markings. I was hoping to have someone use the IPMS sheet as a reference (not copy) to produce a new set of these decals. I like your idea better.

One thing about this sheet (as it is). Rahal was trying to qualify his own car design (RH01) at Indy that year. I'm not sure he tried to qualify a Lola as a backup. Indy was the only time he was in car #1 (which is the number on the IPMS decal sheet). For all other races it looks like he was driving car #4. Perhaps, my decal producer can be talked into supplying a number 4.

I am getting excited about a set or rahal MGD decals, I hope I can obtain a set. Rahal ran the truesports chassis til he DNQ'd at Indy. They did not have a Lola til after Indy. He had somewhat solid results in races before Indy in '93, so I feel the Rahal/Hogan crew had an air of optimism developing that old Truesports chassis til the DNQ at Indy, where they used Lola's for the rest of the year.
I'm sure the Miller ppl were pissed he missed Indy, pretty embarrassing, I cringe every time Paul Page talks to Bobby about missing the 1993 race in the 500 build up/pre-race, you can see the disappointment in bobby's body language, and I feel Paul Page is pretty sincere that Bobby didn't make the field.

The sheet is full of all sorts of extra stuff. Lots of seat belt logos and the NASCAR logos as well. I can only guess that the guys making the sheet packed it with as many different decals as they could.
I am still hoping that the guy I contacted to do a specific MGD sheet (using this sheet for reference) will have the time to do this one.

Stu where did you dig those up? I havent heard back from those guys on making some more....Chris My local hobby shop. The owner never gets rid of anything! I asked if he had the 97 IPMS decals and he brought out this box and there they were. He used to attend Nationals every year. I think the trick to check with the old timers at your local IPMS chapter.
