Here is my latest project, the '84 March. It will be a 6 piece resin kit to fit the AFX Mega-G 1.7" chassis. This is the prototype body, and is prolly one mold away from me calling it the "master". Still have to sribe in the panel lines and make provisions for the pop-off valve. The modeler will have to sand the front wing area, once glued in, to smooth the nose section. Comments are welcome. I made this model so the trans/rear upright has to be glued to the back of the chassis to get that open rear bodywork look in the back. Attachments:

After seeing all the neat resin cars you are doing for the H.O. slot cars makes me want to raid the attic and drag out all the track and cars we collected over the years when my boys were little and get into it again. VERY COOL STUFF!!

Thanks for the compliments!!! Yes, I have just started offering up these under the name of "FastBodies". I started with the '90's CART Reynard. I am currently working on finalizing the '84 March and the current IRL Dallara, so it will be a week or two before they are ready to be offered. I will also be doing some generic F1 bodies like the one pictured. Remember one important thing. These are built around the current (new) AFX Mega-G 1.7" chassis. These will not fit our older vintage chassis' that we have stashed away. Lastly, I do not know the policies of this forum as far as selling these or using this forum to offer them? For now, you can contact me at fastlap@comcast.net Thanks!!! Gary Fast Attachments:

Gary, the policy is "If its Open Wheel it's Cool!!!" Slot cars, models, diecasts, you name it. I have to find the article from the 60's -70's about the HOUROC HO racing club I help start.. It wasnt so much about winning races, it was about inovation, anything went as long it was built to the particular race theme, ie Indy500, Can Am etc. We had a concourse for every race too, as a modeler I loved to win that, we were building and racing can motor angle and sidewinder HO cars years before anyone. Tom Bowman came out and couldnt believe the stuff we were racing. He entered and got blown off!!!!I think he posted something on HOWL about it. I still have some brass floating pan cars I did up long before anyone... I will find the article. Thanks for posting your work I love it. Chris Ps. Found it!!

First of all...Thanks guys! Chris, cool stuff you did. I love seeing the old stuff like that. In the early through late '80's I raced in a few local HO groups here in the Chicago area mostly in the Super Stock class. However, I used to live for the Concourse at every event. I ducked out of the HO scene for the '90's, keeping my modeling to myself in the basement. In 2001, HOPRA chose to hold the Nats in the Chicagoland area. I decided it was time for me to "come out of the basement" ...LOL. So, I entered, and was lucky enough to win the top honor of National Championship that year. Attached is a shot of the car I did that earned me the honor to be called, Champ. This car is one which I made my own buck from bondo, then vacuformed with styrene plastic. It has a full interior, engine compartment, and fuel cell trunk compartment. One thing I will always do, is model subject after real cars. If I can't get the angles, stances, appearence correct, then I'll work even harder to achieve the real thing. This is why this site has become one of my favorites, due to all the talent I see modeling my favorite subject..... Indy Cars! Gary Attachments:

Here is my next '84 March in road course trim. I'm working on painting the driver figure. Still have to add the pop-off valve and add wash to bring out the panel lines. I improved the master mold by adding the exhaust shield plate and Turbo inlet bell to the mold. Now all I have to do, is paint the raised details. Decals are from Indycals. Can't wait for Michael to relaease his '84 lineup!!! Gary Attachments:

Well even with the '88 decals, it looks real good. Do you have a 1/64th scale Indy track? :-p I have 1/32nd scale scalextric slot car stuff, wish I could find an '84 march in that scale

Yeah, the '88 decals are the only ones that I can get in 1/64th scale for the moment. I have a, yet to be run on, Brad Bowman routed track. 117' in length 4-lane road course. My goal is to have it is running condition right during or after the holidays. Brad is world renowned for his sintra routed tracks. He has done some 1/32 scale also. www.bradstracks.com/

Really love your bodies, but was pretty disappointed to hear they only fit the newer chassis. My friends and I have SOOO much invested in our older Aurora AFX, Magna-Traction and G-Plus cars (not to mention T-Jets!) that none of us have added or expect to add any of the newer chassis to ur rosters. IMHO the older cars are also more realistic and fun to drive. I would be interested in hearing more about your progress with the Bowman track as I'm considering one for our new house.

Thanks Brian Yep, I understand where you are coming from. Many years ago, I started out modeling on the older AFX G-Plus. It lent itself fairly well to open wheel cars, although they always looked stubby. I would extend the chassis wheelbase to get a better look. The T-jets and Magna-tractions were always too tall to get any sort of lower sidepod. Then the LifeLike M-chassis came out and I got back to modeling again. I spoke with Steve Russell, who is the developer for the newer Mega-G chassis, as well as the US distributer for Tomy AFX HO products. His company name is Racemasters. He is a true-blue open wheel fan!!!! His dad was Jim Russell of Russkit fame. Anyhow, This newer chassis allows for newer bodies to be made which are close enough to depict a decent open wheel car. I still feel the armature magnets are too tall, but it is what it is. The wheelbase is almost "spot on". In regards to the area of the wheelbase is where Steve allowed me the pirivalege of collaborating with him when he was developing the chassis with parent company Tomy. One thought for you and your racing buds, is to purchase "rolling chassis" only from guys like Buds HO slot cars. here is a link to a new chassis for $15ea. stores.budshocars.com/-strse-1134/1-TOMY-AFX-MEGA/Detail.bokHere is the PENNZOIL completed. Gary,
Those are awesome. I really loved my HO stuff when I was a kid. Interesting that you mentioned Brad Bowman. I raced karts against him out here in California a few years ago, and he's still at it.
Still can't get over how nice those turned out...

Gary, it's not the initial chassis expense that we are concerned about, it's that just like real racecars, these little things chew up tires and other parts on a regular basis and it's the spare parts and maintenance that we don't want to take on. I already have a HUGE inventory of Aurora parts, enough to last into my grandchildren's lives! Also, besides the unreal speeds and handling of the "modern" magnet-downforce slot cars, none of my group enjoys working on them very much! We can dis-assemble, clean and re-assemble a T-Jet or AFX with our eyes closed, but some of the newer chassis are SOB's to work on. Not a criticism of you interests at all, as I said before I love your bodies and wish I could use them! If you ever do anything for the original G-Plus again, I can guarantee you a bunch of sales from my area! Any chance of some pics of your Bowman track? I'm leaning toward a slightly reduced version of the Indy Roval, since it will give us a variety of tracks to use.
