Hello you all,
I'm Jochen and my english skills are a little better than my modeling ones, so I can poorly show such wonderful cars that I saw here or share big experience. Please excuse me for that. Oh, I learned right now, that a typing error is more interesting in a foreign language ...
In first line I'm a slotracer and since some guys started a little series with vintage formula racers I'm infected by the open wheelers. My first car for this series (and until that unknown to the others) was the MPC Gurney Eagle that I accidental hit at ebay. And by searching for kits and photos from the "real" cars I later found this forum. The other day I found exactly my next building project here, so I just had to register to learn more about it. After reading a little from time to time here I want to say, to me it's a very sympathetic forum and I learned a little of the (in Europe) maybe underrated history of the american race cars.
Best wishes
Jochen

Guten Tag Jochen. Your English is far better than my German. Mein Deutsch ist sehr schlecht, und meine Kartoffel ist tot.
Welcome aboard!

Hi Russ, thank you very much! Indeed my first question's for your 1964 Marshman Firebird Special built from the Hall of Fame Kit.That's my current project. I found yours in a thread of 2009, I hope you still remember. I have a question about the car's measurements. In that thread you said that you changed the kit's nose to get the right length. Could you explain to me what exactly did you do ? And if I would add length to the body, don't I have to make it wider, too? I have a Resinecopy of a Lotus 29 (maybe an ex-slotcar, maybe ment to be 1/24) and was amazed, that the AMT-kit was about 1 cm shorter and less wide too. Never found any resource with reliable measurements of those cars. Kind regards Jochen

Jochen…
Sure I remember the build…Did Clark last year and used the did Marshman’s Car. First of all, I used the AMT kit only for the body. After checking Bob Clidinest's excellent drawings of the car, Bob addness is…
Bob Clidinst 5731 Windmill Dr. Indianapolis, IN 46254 greats resorce…He drawinf for fifty years!!
it was the most accurate to use the old AMT kit and add a bid to the nose. I also reshaped the nose opening to be more accurate. I then pre-fit the cover over the engine and trim it down a bit. I then took, the engine cover from a AMT/McLaren and trimmed it down to match the from of the engine opening, because the Ford-Four Cam sits out a bit further than the first year Ford Engine. I then, added a piece of sheet plastic and reshaped it into a curved piece that you now see the decals on. When you use the engine from the old Olsonite kit, cut off the transmission from the old AMT Lotus kit so the rear suspension fits onto it properly. All I did then was to cut off the struts for the outside suspension braces for they always break and are flimsy anyway, and replaced them with thin metal rods and attached them to the fittings outside the body and to the rear suspension. You also need to strip off the "chrome plating" on all the parts and repaint them. That plating is useless anyway.
I hope that answers your questions. Oh, The side oil tank was made from grafting two oil tanks from the old AMT Watson kit. The kit windscreen was vac-formed and I used the exhaust from the Olsonite kit. If you have anymore questions, just contact me here. Best of luck to you...This is easy compared to somethings! Fred Cady does the decals...
Best to you...
Russ

Hi Russ,
thank you very much for your tips and hints and Bobs Adress.
I hope to present my work here in a few months.
Did I get it right, you rebuilt the car into a Clark-version?
Best to you!
