Okay, I got this 1/24 hotwheels last spring before the 500 and about 1 month ago striped it and I put it in metal primer with white tamiya primer.....so fast forward to a few days ago when I got the dayglo. I taped up the car and shot the dayglo then I tried out the new indycals vinyl markings, which I was surprised how good they look! They went on nice and solid also! I also sprayed some Tamiya clear over and everything was fine! I did screw up on masking but after I fix it no one will be able to tell.... I still need to add some more decals..... and I know you diecast pro's are prolly thinking my way building is a little strange but you'll never know when its done. I also cast some revel reynard tires and wheels for this. Before I started this first diecast project I had my doubts if I was going to really care about doing a diecast but its really not to bad - its kinda fun to have something off to the side to pick up and do fairly quick when I'm in currently the mix of doing the Batmobile...which I'm waiting for some supply's for that.

I just had something kinda strange happen when I was posting these pics. I orginally had but nothing was popping up on this post. so I took off the "Dallara - Dan Wheldon" in my title and it solved the problem.

You definitely have a weird building style, but there's no denying the end results!

I'll go ahead and tell the truth on why I built this backwards is because the seam on the side pods and nose just bother the heck out me. On the real car, you can barley see the seam on the side pod and I guess for myself this goes back to the 80's AMT car builds is to get rid of the seam on the nose. So I take the compromise of making the more important parts of the car look good and fix the other parts like the cockpit and suspension which dont mean as much in the final product. Like I said, at the end of the day, I bet you'll never know.

Tell me again what Floro Orange you used? Stu Pactra RC Lacquer. Goes on flat but I can clear it with Tamiya. I clear everything anyway.

A little more to show.... Its a bad pic but I've been applying Hi-def carbon fiber to the suspension and under tray.

I wonder if we'll ever see these decals by Michael or anyone else again. It's such a beautiful car. Nic

Dont know but I know its a real pain to get those dayglo decals done up.
After the fact (after the passing of Dan) I wished I took my time more on this one, I rushed it way too fast, I guess I can still go back and fix it up.

Outstanding job. Reminds me I have a 1/24th diecast Ferrari 310 in the loft awaiting a make over... must get on that. I have no problem with the way you built this, I do what needs to be done all the time, building back to front and upside down just happens, You're right though cos no one knows once the model is finished. Absolutely love the dayglow and white look, like the wheels and tires too. Ian

I'm looking at mine now and they don't look like waterslide.

From the page on Indycals website:
We are pleased to announce a first for Indycals decals: Dayglo printing! This set of decals consists of dayglo-orange markings printed on clear vinyl, combined wiht our standard water slide decals for the rest of the markings, which include another first - chrome foil printing! Due to the need to outsource the dayglo printing, this set of decals will only be available in 1/18 and 1/24 scale

That turned out nice, Dan Wheldon would be very proud of the justice you did to his second 500 winner.
