IMO this is the coolest liveried Zink car ever. I love the heavy drop shadows on the numbers and the huge JZ logo on the hood. Built from the Monogram Kurtis roadster kit with modification parts from alwayindy, grille from The Model Car garage ordered through Strada Sports, and of course decals by yours truly. I used Krylon Watermellon and Ivory and I got the John Zink decals to match the Watermellon as close as possible. This is the 1955 winning car as driven by Troy Ruttman in 1956. Unfortunately this will not reside in my collection as the decals have been stripped and this car will be converted into a new 1955 winner.

The wisdom of this paint scheme is revolutionary. Most race cars look good one of two places but not both. Either the car looks good in the pits or on the track. The exaggerated graphics of this scheme epitomizes that. Very few of the period car markings are legible on the track because they are too small. This car is not like that, which I believe is much smarter. The principle applies today also.

This is just a great build. Can you please share some more information about the grill? I looked at The Model Car Garage website and didn't see it. Do you mesh and make the insert? I was sorry to read that you had to strip the decals. I have some unbuilt Kurtis kits if you are interested. Thanks, Jim

Thanks for the offer Jim, but that is ok. It was my intention all along to strip it for the 55 winner - I do that with some of my cars so I don't have to build more than I need to show off my decals. Case in point my Hardees Lola and Provimi Lola are the same car. The grille is on this page: www.stradasportsstore.com/page25.html you have to scroll down quite a bit.

Jim: That would be me:"alwaysindy." Michael used my conversion set. Look under Indy cars '41-'62. The thread is "Kurtis upgrade kit." PM mr with any questions... thx! Tim

Enjoyed looking at this interesting colour scheme thanks. shame about not having the two cars side by side but I see your point on saving build time. lovely work all the same.
