Work has ground to a halt

Well, I haven't been around much lately, and I haven't been able to work on any of my fun projects. In case anyone was wondering, in addition to the usual summer slowdown and some increased at-work (the 8-5 gig) time, on the night of June 27 we had a sump pump failure during a storm. Now, it wasn't was bad as it could have been, and certainly pales in comparison to what the folks in Iowa and places have gone through, but it was enough to destroy our carpet (previous owners had put in nice carpet with nice padding - grrr) and wick up our walls a good 6-8 inches or so. And that of course includes my work area. Fortunately, we lost very little in the way of possessions, most everything was either up off the floor on shelves or on plastic, or we acted fast enough to get up stairs. I lost some magazines and papers and some gaming stuff - but no modeling stuff. Some got wet, but plastic dries. ;D All my decals are stored upstairs under my bed.

Anyway, now it's been a hassle trying to get even a quote redo the drywall, and the carpet people say it will be about a month. Insurance actually came through pretty quick. In the meantime all our stuff is in boxes scattered throughout or living area upstairs, along with furniture, etc. (We have a tri-level, and our lower level is basically where we spend a lot of our time - family room, computer office, my workroom, etc.

I had run cable out to our screen room last fall so I could watch football, so that's where I'm watching the races now too - no HD for me!

So there's a lot of work to do, and it will probably be a while before I can get back to modeling.

Sorry so long, but that's my story at the moment. Hopefully this fall I can get back in the swing and will have more to share with everyone!

Nice to have you back here. Sorry to hear about your plight but as you said, most things can be replaced and nobody was injured.
I am concerned about you though. A guy can sleep with his wife, girlfriend, kids, pets, etc. I have never heard of a guy that sleeps on top of his decals. Not that it's wrong, I just never heard of it.
Seriously, I can't wait to see more of your work. Good luck with the house.

I hope you don't live anywhere in Southern Wisconsin. The entire Southern half of the state just went into a flood watch for the next couple of days!

Thanks, guys. I really started suffering from withdrawal last night and needed to check in here!

No, not in southern Wisconsin. I mean, we're stripped down to bare concrete and need to redo the floor and the drywall, but I read and see about all of the other things people lost in other areas, and just wow. Furniture-wise, we lost a couple bookshelves. Woopdeedoo. Insurance actually came through quickly, it's just a matter of getting the contractors in. You'd think they wouldn't be too busy and would jump on anything in this economy, but I dunno.

And yeah, my wife thought it was kind of weird about the decals thing too, but I never trusted the work room. It's not overly damp - it's air conditioned and I have a dehumidifier - but it is the laundry room, and the sump pump is in there, so why take a chance. Plastic will dry, but if the decals succumb to even a little moisture, I would not be a happy modeler.

Oh, and as I was boxing up and moving out the modeling supplies, I think she finally realized how many kits I have. She said she thinks it's time I start finishing some before I buy more. ;D

tell your wife that sleeping over the decals is your part toward feng-shui and that buying more kits can only help to balance things out even more!

First: Macsparty, glad to hear that the damage was *minimal*. I had a basement flood about a year ago, and it ain't no fun.

Bill, it's summer, school's out, people are not building as much, usually. The time of year really has no effect on me! LOL!!

No problem here. My schedule is backward from most of you. While I enjoy golf during summer, I have found more enjoyment from model-building this summer. Once late August hits, my schedule bogs down as I coach a youth ice hockey team and my time is then limited.
