Good afternoon. My name is Harold, and I'm a baby boomer, been into scale models since about eight. Built my first model around ten years old. I think it was an F9F Panther ? I honestly love all forms of scale modeling. My favorite subjects are model cars, but I'm kicking around a couple of WWII fighters in my head.
My bottom line is, what ever you just finished, I don't care what it is. I'm ready to sit down with you and check it out, top to bottom and rave about what a great job you did. Lately I've been more of a kit collector, but that all is about to change. Just got the new Revell Kurtis midget, Edelbrock flat head ford, for my B'Day. And I have a Watson Roadster, I started a few years back.
I've been a visitor here for about two years now. In that time I have been amazed, and absolutely blown away by the gorgeous, mouth watering models here.
The thing though that made me finally take the plunge and join the fellowship here is, the camaraderie, respect, politeness the veterans on here have for each other, and the way you always go out of your way to help new members. I would be honored just to be a small part of this wonderful forum.
Thanks so much for accepting my user request.
Harold

Glad to have you here Harold! I don't think anyone on this site just builds one thing, that's what makes it so interesting. So, it seems to me you'll fit right in with us. Make yourself at home and share what you got!

Wow, thanks to everyone of you. Again, I am humbled to be sharing my little corner of the hobby with Men of such awesome talent and knowledge, who are so well spoken on the subject, and at the same time, very courteous with each other.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a sentimental old codger, it's just I've been reading the conversation for quite a while, and I'm just very impressed with you guys.
If I may, I would like to ask, in order to upload photos from my hard drive, do I need to have a Fotki account first ?
Respectfully yours,
Harold
I love all open wheel cars from the very beginning, on up until around the middle seventies. My absolute favorites are all of the Millers, Watsons, Kurtis kraft roadsters, and midgets. I generally like all vingtage race cars.

welcome harold! i agree with you on your favorites but i'll add the novis as well! duane Thanks so much ! I read where the Novi's blower turned at three times the revs of the engine, and the sound was described as that of a screaming banshee, and the intake and exhaust valves were so large, that when the driver down shifted, it was so loud it sounded like a fighter plane, and would rattle your teeth. Now I would love to be a fly on the wall with all that drama going on. Have Mercy ! ;D Best regards, Harold.

Welcome aboard Harold!
You hit the nail right on the head. We maintain a pretty high level of civility here and the moderators, including me, keep watch to make sure things moved in a positive direction. The greatest thing about this board is the amount of information in the form of tips, pictures, race info and many other things. If you don't know about something just ask. Someone has the answer and it will soon be posted. You would think by the way we talk to each other, that we all know each other personally. Many do, but like me, most guys have never met. And the guys I have met, Mike Portaro (Indycals), Scott McLachlan (MacSparty), and Bill Jorgensen, I'd buy them all a beer. And wait until you get a look at what our Boy Wonder, Calvin Sallee (chaparral2K), has done! He's amazing.
Best advice is to build, ask, post pictures, ask some more, buy from the guys that sell things, and ask even more. I have learned more in the 3+ years I've been here than all the years I've been building combined. If it sounds like I am proud of this board, I am. Jordan (Indy) is the head honcho and I can tell you he is also proud of the way things are conducted here. So have a great time and post pictures of your builds. To answer your question about posting pics, you should get a Fotki account. I used Photobucket for mine but I'm not sure they are even around anymore. Good thing my pics are still on this board and on my facebook account.

Thanks Greg and Russ ! Russ, I have to agree with you on the front engine cars, right up to the rear engine revolution with the Lotus Fords and a few others.
I like all the front engine vintage Indy, Sprint cars, but like you, I love the Kurtis, Watson, and Miller cars. IMHO they are all just gorgeous. I even like the first rear engine cars before all the down force, wings, spoilers changed the look so dramatically. Best regards Russ.
Greg, thank you, I appreciate all of your great info in your post. I know I have just scratched the surface of the wealth of information on open wheel racing, and building scale models of the classics on this forum.
I have a pretty good general knowledge on the subject, when I'm around normal race fans.
But over here with you guys, I'm just a novice, and I am really impressed with the wealth of knowledge of OW racing, the drivers, and the cars that you guys have. The depth of detail you all have, with dates, and specs, and who did this, with what, and when astonishes me. I'm just happy to be here !
Thanks for the info on image hosting sites. I'm in the process of working that out now.
Thanks again Gentlemen, I'm amazed with the quality and beauty of your work, your knowledge of the sport, and hobby.
When I'm here I'm like a blind dog in a meat house !
Best regards,
Harold

I love the analogy..."blind dog in a meat house" that is so perfect! ;D I'm a teacher so that might explain the enthusiasm. Welcome, having people such as yourself join us keeps this group the way you have seen us. You are now a part of you like!

Harold.....Nothing a roadster!!! Even Dan Gurney took driver test the 1956 Winning Roadster in 1962. I feel the time, took it took talent to drive the front engine roadster.
Best to you!

Howdy Guys ! Greg, I have a question on a build. I have an MPC Watson that I just started awhile back, clean up, drilled out exhaust, but most recently my Grandson got me started on a hot rod kit. The new Revell 32 five window deuce. I'm pretty much obligated to finish it for the little guy, loves his hot wheels, and his Dad is an awesome modeler !
I was wondering if I finished the coupe as an early drag car with slicks, roll bars, and a meat ball and number, would it be appropriate under Miscellaneous Open Wheel Cars ?
I don't need to start out on the wrong foot here, so I thought I would ask. If the coupe wouldn't be appropriate, it will be awhile before I could post a current project, but I could post an Indy car or two I have in my collection in the mean time.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards all,
Harold

Welcome, Harold. Anyone who has Kurtis and Watson fever is automatically my buddy for life. FYI, Photobucket is still up and running. I use and like it. Gary Gary, thank you so much. In this life one can never have too many Friends. Thanks again, and right back at cha Buddy ! Gregg, great news, my Grandson I and thank you all. I'm working on detailing the motor now. It's going to be a little bit special I hope. The old Revell Skip's Fiesta 55 Chevy, fiddly that it is, has a really nice detailed 409. It looks an awful lot like the ultra rare Z11 427 Big Block, in the ultra rare 63 Impala Super Stocks of that era. The Z11 is a punched out 409. It had a wild two piece, high rise, dual quad intake set up, and even wilder two piece headers on both sides, in whice one piece was routed on the outside of the frame and tucked back under the car. My 409 sourced from the 55 Kit, has a pretty good representaion of the rare two piece intake, and looks a lot like the Z11 427. It should look good sitting in a Deuce Coupe dragster from the era. By the way, the two piece Z11 intake, mysteriously looks a lot like the Pontiac 421 Super Duty intake. Back in the day Super Duty Catalinas held there on, and were nothing to sneeze at. I hopefully will be posting shots of the build very soon. Again, I am so happy to be a part of the wonderful fellowhip on Our Great Forum ! Best regards, Harold.

Thanks Stu, thanks Paul I appreciate it very much. I'm just happy to be here !
Sorry I'm just now responding guys, I've been setting up a photo image service server. I have Fotki, tech support wasn't too helpful. I finally figured enough out to create albums, and upload photos. I should be trying a test shot asap.
Have a good one, and thanks again Guys !
