I built this for a friend in Indy. I used a Carousel 1 1/18th Johnny Rutherford Gatorade McLaren as the donor and made all the decals myself. Scratch build his head and helmet and googles. Another friend of mine told me a story that went like this. You see inside the car Llyod Ruby was a wild man. But, outside the car he was as laid back as you could possibly be. He talked very slow and never got real excited. My friend was talking to Mr. Ruby and asked him what was the best car he ever had. Lloyd answered slowly that he was not sure about the best car but the Allied Polymer car was the F**KING fastest. My friend almost fell out his chair laughing! ;D Stu [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/IMG_1967.jpg" img] [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/IMG_1968.jpg" img] [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/IMG_1970.jpg" img]

I was at a meet and greet at the Speedway Motel before the race. JR and Ruby were teammates. During the Q&A period, someone asked Ruby what would happen if he and JR were running together for the win. Ruby smiled at JR and in his best Texas drawl said, "Either ol' Rube is a-gonna win or the guy in third is a-gonna win". Rutherford almost fell off the stage, expecting Lloyd to say that he would yield to the #1 team driver. It was really something to see!

Nice work again Stu. Good job on the #7 on the nose down in the crease. Those decals are fragile.

Thanks Ralph. It took me a few tries but I finally ended up cutting two numbers into sections and piecing them together to make one. Too big a valley to do it with one decal.

Wow Stu!
And to think you built that whole model wearing Mario's helmet! ;D
Another great job.

I don't recall ever seeing this one before - I like how striking the simple scheme is with the punch of color coming from the Union Jack.

I love it, but then everyone knows I am a big Ruby fan. I have Oldphotos looking for a McLaren for me so I can do one of these! I can not help but feel that if Ruby's car not had suffered its pre race miss-hap, that he would have been the car to beat that day. Lance

Tell us about the pre-race thing Lance.

I have been pouring over my books to find the story but have yet to find it so this is kinda what I remember. After the pre-race engine warm up, a crew member overlooked part of the shut down procedure and fuel collected in the cylinders resulting in a burned piston by lap 7. Ruby's day was done before he ever climbed into his car. Lance
