I have to say, the randomizing of the race order for part 2 at Texas netted some interesting results. And while Penske tends to be boring as they usually dominate, it was nice to see Will Power get an oval win finally. That inside on the apron pass he did of (I believe) Hunter Ray's car slowing down was gutsy, that's for sure. TK's radio traffic (what the race broadcast showed) was hilarious:
Crew chief: You want us to change anything?
TK: NOOOOO!!!!!!!
I hadn't smiled that much since I was at Kansas in 2000 and heard Eddie Cheever say "You don't own an Infiniti, resistance is futile!!! Get the **** out of the way!!!" on the race scanner. ;D

When did Dario become such a whiner? Apparently he can't win unless he starts in the front. Grow a set like your buddy Kanaan and actually race. Yes...I agree an inverted start would be more 'fair' but jeez wasn't he selected as one of Indy's top 33 drivers.

I'm in favor of the random nature. In an era where pits close on caution and engines no longer blow up, the random factor of the racing is all but gone. I wan't it brought back.

Was disappointed Dario couldn't let it go - he said his peace before the race and made a good point. After the race it came off more like crying - and for the record, I like Dario.
Here's hoping Power can whip him by more than the difference at this race in all 3 championships this year.

I guess Dario's griping didn't go unnoticed as I heard last night that the IRL won't do a random draw like that ever again. Pity too as it was an exciting second race. Personally, I also like Dario, but he does seem to be a bit more vocal these days about things.
On one hand I can kind of see where Dario is coming from as if one is going to be stuck back in the pack on a race start, if the car is tuned the same, it is going to behave very different in dirty air if the setup prefers clean air. But then I got to thinking about it and even with how exciting it was, the idea was still a gimmick and I figure they might as well leave the gimmicks to Nascar and let Indycars do their own thing. Do too many gimmicks just to get fans in the door and you risk alienating the old fans.
Now, if the IRL were to perhaps have a non-points race ala what used to be called "The Winston" in NASCAR, then they can have an excuse to shuffle things a bit as points won't be on the line then. But, I don't know if the race teams would go for additional wear and tear on their cars unless there was a prize money purse worth their while, even for last place. I don't see that happening for a few years though.

Dario is becming more and more a whiner. As a friend said to me yesterday. "Dario thinks he's the second coming of Jim Clark." It's sad for me because this is a guy I used to root for. Now I can't stand him.

Actually, I have an idea for the 2nd race next year. Still do the random draw but give the number of push-to-pass based on your starting position. So it you start first you get one push to pass. If you start 30th, you get 30 push to pass.
What do you think?

I liked the random draw myself. Dario's problem was that he actually had to work his way up through the field to earn what finish he did get. He actually had to do some driving as opposed to dominating everyone from the front. What got me was the continued "fine whine" after he won Milwaukee. He's starting to get a rather unflattering nickname; "Pampers" Franchitti.

What ever happened to being thankful for having one of the top rides in the sport? There are a couple dozen drivers that would take his ride if all starting fields were set by a blind draw.

Now I can't stand him. I agree....he made a jab about Helio and blocking in his post race interview at Milwaukee. You know it's stuff like that you just talk to the guy about it...it's like airing your dirty laundry....it's NASCAR crap...I expect more from these guys/gals. Oh wait how long did Dario spend with those backwards inbreds from NASCAR?
