Well, I've got this idea to do one of Scott Brayton's cars from the 500. I have the AMT Amway-Speedway kit, but it is Cosworth powered and not Buick powered like what Brayton championed at Indy. So, I look at the Monogram 88 Lola Buick and see it is a possibility as well, but the decals I have are for the 1989 car and not 1988 (and some of the contingency sponsors are a little different for the Indy 500 car vs what is in the box).
So, I could either cobble together some markings, or use my ALPS to make them for the 1988 car or I could perhaps try shoehorning the Monogram Buick plant into the AMT 1989 chassis and make the contingency markings (which I have an Onyx diecast to look at for reference), which may not be easy since it is 1/25 scale and the engine is 1/24 (width-wise it might work, length-wise there could be problems).
Of course, one thing that would make this decision easier would be if somebody like Indycal were to make some 1988 Amway markings for the Monogram Lola Buick (hint hint). But I am curious if anyone else has tried anything similar to what I am proposing?

You can make the 1988 car using the AMT Provimi kit. That has the correct engine cover for the Cosworth and the side pods have the correct radiator vents and air "ramps" at the back. I've never built one of the Monogram kits. IMHO the Monogram kits appear to be less accurate then the AMT version.
Not sure about the markings.

I think if you're looking for decal accuracy you might want to consider making your car a "curbside", meaning you won't open up the engine cover. If you are looking for engine accuracy, try the Monogram. I've made several of them and I didn't find them to be the horror show that I originally thought they'd be. And the decals won't be that noticeable as far as the size. Someone else here ( I apologize to him for forgetting) built the 1988 Mac Tools Lola, which was a Monogram kit, and used the decals on an AMT Lola and it looked real nice.

I don't necessarily want to do the Cosworth though. I want to do the Buick instead. If I do the Buick, I would like to keep the engine cover off to showcase it is a Buick V6 under the bonnet at least as it is part of the history of Indy (Buick, often entered, won poles... but never the race). If I keep it curbside, it loses a little of that unique mystique and becomes just another 1988-89 Lola (at least IMHO).
If I can find some decent pictures of the 1988 car (only found 2 so far, barely enough), I can at least take a stab at doing decals for it (Freehand software, Alps printer, gotta love it). It wouldn't be my first choice, but it is an option anyway. Biggest problem is with those baby blue and pink shades, although doing a straight print of the blue contingency sponsor in cyan might get me what I need.

Sir, when you get the buick 1/24 scale Buick V6 engine, lay out all of the parts and study the. You may want to do them with the Cosworth as well.. If the Engine bloock is molded the rear axle (Transaxle), cut it of. Do the same with the cosworsth and do it with all of the parts. Just study everything and cut a little here and a littl there and make hings fit. I think you will find it will not be that difficult Just take your time and try not to do to much in one day. I'm 100% sure it will work and look great.
Good Luck, Robby
