the Red Bull 7 undertray shows how the Exhaust Gas Skirt effect works, In red exhaust gas flows forward and out the front sides of the sidepods creating a Gas Skirt in effect, the yellow is the starter access holes that are used to evacuate air from above out the rear. Since this type of system will be banned after Montreal it is said Red Bulls advantage may disappear with it.. here is a pic of the real deal... Say Good Bye!!! Chris

Overheard at a recent FIA meeting: "I guess since McLaren and Ferrari can't make it work correctly, we'll just ban it"
I hope Red Bull still kicks their a**es.

I am sure Red Bull is hard at work to make something that will replace it, I just wonder how much this will effect teams like Mercedes GP who seems to have it down pat... Chris

I'm kinda sad to see the "Exhaust Gas Skirts" go So does that mean the Lotus Renault Team (the black cars) will have to do away with their front exhaust(?)

Yep, I am sure the rules will now read Exhaust must exit rearward through the bodywork. The RB7 actually ducts though the undertray where some others use pipe to bring the exhaust forward.. Where these ideas come from are out of this world... I have a automotive Tech oriented mind and most ideas click, this one baffled me for a while.. I still havent figured out the rear facing Cannon ( funnel ) used by a few teams.. I do have an idea it helps blow air onto the lower wing element increasing low speed downforce.. Chris And the cars will begin to sound normal again and less like a garbage disposal...

This isn't automotive tech, this is airplane science like the Lockheed Skunkworks! Crazy! As for Red Bull, if they really are that good, then you know they are already one or two steps ahead with something else. As with any car, it isn't one item that necessarily makes things work better, but usually a combination of several things. I'm not surprised Ferrari can't seem to make such a thing work as they don't seem to have the same brain power they did when Ross and Michael were there.

It's the banning of new ideas that bothers me. Each time the rules are more strictly defined the oppertunity for new thinking is narrowed a little further. You just couldn't see any one making a leap of faith like Colin Chapman used to do, or somebody take risks as big as using four small front wheels. If we ban each new idea that gives someone an advantage we might as well make it a one make series. If it is truly to be the pinicle of motor sport should it not embrace new ideas and develope them for the good of all road users. If an aerodynamic aid is not applicable to road cars that would be a better reason for banning it, not because some teams can make it work and others can't. On the same theme artificial gimmicks like tyres that run out after 15 laps just to make the racing more exciting seem counter productive to the automobile user too. I mean would any of us seriously buy new tyres on the promise they will run out of life sooner rather than later!
