OK, guys, I have a dilemma. On my '57 Novi, I painted the body, waited a week or so, decalled the entire thing in one sitting (great Indycals!), waited a few days again and then cleared over everything with Future as I always do. The contingency cluster on the right side has turned brown, well, at least the clear carrier between the logos has. All other decals are fine or have browned only VERY slightly so as to not be a problem. What the @#%^ happened? I'm debating what to do, try stripping just that one spot and re-decalling and clearing (don't have all those logos in my spares), or just re-doing the whole car. I might try exposing that side of the car to sunlight to fade out the brown like you do with old dis-colored decals. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I used all my usual decal methods and chemicals so I'm at a loss. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

If anything, decals tend to turn a slight blue tint, but not brown. Here is one suggestion... How about getting another copy of that one decal and placing it over the browned decal. It will not be clear coated ... but it may cover up the browned decal. Not sure if the clear area will "bleed through" but its worth a try. ...ALSO... I would contact Mike (Indycals) and ask him if he has ever had this happen before. Perhaps he can offer a possible cause. Good luck ... and perhaps some one has an even better idea what to do.

worst case - DON'T strip the car. Windex will take the Future off and you can usually pull up decals with masking tape or drenching in setting solution. I don't think you'd have to repaint.

My bad, Jordan, that's what I meant by re-doing the whole car, stripping just the Future and decals and re-decalling the whole thing with fresh decals. I think I'm just going to wait a couple weeks to see if any other decals do the same thing. If not, I may just re-do that section of the body.

Jordan Hey Jordan, I didn't know that Windex will strip off Future. That is great to know. Can you just drop the Future coated piece in a bowl of Windex and come back later, or do you need to be carefull about how you use it? RussD

Jordan/All,
Thanks for the Windex tip. It worked great! In fact, did you know that it actually can be used to strip paint also? I had piece that I was going to strip down to bare resin and it had Tamiya paint with an over coat of Future. I decieded to try out the Windex trick to see how well it worked. So I put the entire piece in a dish of Future. I came back an hour later and the Future and the paint were both desolved. Looks like you can use Windex as a cheep stripping agent.

I'm thinking since Future is an acrylic and Tamiya paint is acrylic-based, that's why it worked. I've never had Windex attack any lacquer or enamel paints. Still haven't decided what to do about my decal problem. I'll let everyone know what I decide to do.
