I've been looking at this kit I picked up a month or so ago for $5 and with Indy going on, got all fired up to build this. So I read everything on the forum and studied some of the great builds here. I also started looking for references of the engine compartment, but am finding that they are just as scarce as they were when I looked for them for the Andretti Lola.
So my question for the group is, where can I find references for this car? Also, are there any inaccuracies in the kit that should be taken into consideration?
I already found the Tony Matthews cutaway, which looks helpful, and I plan to use Indycals.
Any suggestions and references are welcome.
Thanks!

Engine compartment are extremely scarce. If you find some, email them to me - I could use them!!

Just a thought, but if you have the 1988 official Indy 500 program, there is a cutaway drawing of the PC 17, including the engine.

I think I have the same drawing done by Tony Matthews scraped off the Autosport forums. It will definitely be useful. Unfortunately, it obscures some details I'd like to show.

since I have been studying this, I've made a few observations that I'm hoping you guys can confirm or correct for me.
-It looks like the three-hole wheel covers were used perhaps for Indy qualifying and to start the race, but the car finished without them. I like the look of the wheel covers, so I'm planning to replicate that look. Where were the six-hole versions used?
-The rear wing support on the model is one flat strut. In photos, it appears that the support actually has two struts that are closer together, than say, the 88 Lola. Is that correct?
-The Chevy engine cam covers have some ridges engraved on the top cover above the lettering that doesn't exist in the references. The Lola doesn't have them, so I am planning to remove them.
Is there anything else to the kit I'm not catching?
Everything else seems pretty straight-forward, but I sure would like to find some good detail shots.
Does anyone have any tips on the process of removing and reattaching the front A-arms?
Thanks!

-It looks like the three-hole wheel covers were used perhaps for Indy qualifying and to start the race, but the car finished without them. Correct. Mears insisted on getting rid of them during the race. The rear wing support on the model is one flat strut. In photos, it appears that the support actually has two struts that are closer together, than say, the 88 Lola. Is that correct? I checked my photos from the museum last week and that is correct - a double strut. Does anyone have any tips on the process of removing and reattaching the front A-arms? Fresh exacto blade, cut slowly. Drill small holes at the suspension attachment points, a) for proper realignment, and b), you can insert small steel-wire pins into the suspension to remount them back to the car. Just be very careful drilling the holes into the suspension.

Totally agree 100% with Michael.
The way I heard it was the wheel covers made the car really loose so Team Penske had to scramble to get the wheels remounted.

Wow, so Mears made the call during the race... I guess it worked out! Yep. That's pretty much what Chuck Sprague told me when I saw him at the 500.
