What's up with the Andretti Autosport team? I think of them as the #3 team in the series but they don't look like it today!?!?

More thoughts: - WTG Ed!!! - Nice surprise from Tags - he's been Fazzt all month long LOL - Surprised Penske's speed isn't that apparent today - I don't like the fast 9 for Indy 500 qualifying - I'm a purist - I really like the day being named after Tom Carnegie

The Fast Nine turned into Mulligans for Indy Racing. This isn't weekend golf.
On the other hand, I too am surprised by the lack of speed by Team Penske and AA. Bump Day is going to be a lot of fun.

If Tom Carnegie were alive, we would have heard, "And DARIO is slowing down on the backstretch".

Whether I like the fast 9 depends on how it affects the standings according to my liking. The good from yesterday - one of the red cars lost a front row starting spot and a smaller team benefitted. The bad - it was the one red car driver that I like.
Had Dixon won the pole at Tags expense, I would NOT have been happy.

If they extend the 6:00pm deadline to allow Daninca her run....Indy loses all credibility.

Wow, an Andretti Autosport DNQ'd - that just goes to show that Indy is still never a guarantee.

2 AA DNQ's - biggest DNQ's since 1995?
*I'd love to do the BSA #19 car in Lloyd or SeaBass configs*

You can't get much more drama than that....hat's off to Marco. Good to see he can get it done under intense pressure.

I feel bad for the other AA guys that didn't make it. Which leads me to this question: Under the original Indy Racing League rules, the first 25 spots were guaranteed for the series' regulars, correct? I wonder how that would have impacted the field the last two years.

i wonder if they should have rethought the strategy of not going out a bit earlier so hrh could have least had a chance to run again. no matter it was still great stuff to watch! duane

One of the neatest scenes was seeing Roger Penske give Sarah Fisher a hug after Ed Carpenter qualified. I hope these small teams do real well on race day. I'm an Andretti fan but I wouldn't mind seeing Sarah's team or Sam Schmidt's team win it. Good things for people that have paid their dues.

The two great things about Indy have always been The Race (of course) and the race to qualify! The tension as the track got quicker Pole Day afternoon. A.J. storing through the pits, pushing his crew aside to work on his own car, then on bump day putting just about any driver in his backup to qualify. Always drama, joy and heartbreak. And I will to admit that this year’s didn’t disappoint.
Very excited for Tag- Sam, and Ed-Sara What a great month for both teams, I’ll be rooting for them both.
To tell the truth I was somewhat dismayed when the IRL changed the whole format some years ago to one weekend of qualifying though the lack of enough cars to even fill out the field kind of made that an economic and media necessity. Again this year I am not sold on the Fast 9 concept, and I’m pretty sure you would get a good argument from Chip and Dario too. I think we all know that it was done purely for the spectacle. It will be interesting to hear what the drivers and teams have to say this week.
San Yes, What’s up with Andretti Racing? Marco almost got left at the alter.

On a side note Comcast on demand, sports, ESPN, Indy 500, has been showing old clips of the races. Durring one rain delay I watched ABC's Wide World Of Sports broadcast of the 1969 race and Mario winning in the Brawer Hawlk. A lot of "wedge" cars that year, and fledgling wings.
On to the 500 and Monaco... Two Great Races One Great Day!!!

I have to admit I shed a few tears while during the coverage Bob Jenkins told his story about Tom Carnegie....he mentioned that on a cold February day, snow on the track he and a few others walked out to the start/finish line and a raised a beer for Tom. I got all choked up, Al Jr... said it best...you just don't know what Indy means. I do. We'll have one for Lewie on Saturday.
