Looks like you're off to a good start. Have you chosen a Pepto Pink yet?

I was going to suggest Tamiya TS25 spray or X17 acrylic.

Can't wait to see it! I feel like every racer Bob was close with(or raced closely with) perished in a race car. Bryan, Hoyt, Ayulo, Crockett, Elisian, Vukovich...and the list goes on.

This was a fun day. I developed a whole new respect for the drivers of the time after sitting in this car. That had to be a (expletive deleted) to drive. Stephan Gregoire is in the blue driver suit. James Davison is in the back in the white driving suit and was to drive the Sweikert car for filming but it overheated.

I also have 5 photos of the left side if you would like them for reference.

Don't forget the grill. Sweikert's car had a mesh grill that Russ found for the DA Lubricants car that he did. Tony Bettenhausen's Chapman Special, which finshed second, had the grill like the one on the model. I have added some of the changes that you are doing but did not add the insert on the cockpit. That is a good touch. I always wonder. Do we build them like they come out of the box or do we change them to be as authentic as possible? Of course, that never ends. Good luck. I think I used a pink from Home Depot. I have always heard that the pink is what you can get that is close to Pepto Bismol. Jim

I was just at the store and I looked at the Krylon paints - Krylon has a Watermelon color that would be a very decent match.

The actual color is a mid 50's Ford color found on the Crown Vic. Two longtime Zink Mechanics from that era are close friends of mine; Bill Jones of San Antonio, and Denny Moore of Tulsa. They both stated that same thing, and the color was picked because the guy cutting the checks (Zink) liked it. I think if you look at a 1954/5 Ford paint chart, you can find the color code.

Sounds like Ford code W Tropical Rose. Only available on the "55 Victorias as a two tone color with Snowshoe White. I've seen a few pictures online of Vickys painted in that combo. It looks pretty close.

I'll definately keep an eye on this build! Being from Tulsa, the Zink cars are something I have planned for the future.

Thanks for all of the color advice. With help of another thread here, I got some grille material from Strada Sports which closely resembles the real car. After opening up the grille, I traced the outline onto a piece of blue tape. I cut the outline out and transfered it to the P/E. After a lot of filing and careful fitting, it now fits into the opening.

Thanks for the tip on the grille - I'm going to be doing this same build myself and I ordered the grille from strada based on this thread.
