Those are great pictures. If you look hard, you'll see me and my brother somewhere in the first turn bleachers!

Ok, this getting weird ... this was also the first race I ever went to. My dad, mom, brother and I were somewhere in those first turn bleachers. Rusty The two memories I have of that race are the Grizzly Bear Brake Spl., with the Chevy engine with mousetrap valve springs, and the jerk sitting in front of us. He was a big A.J. Foyt and on the out lap, parade lap, pace lap, and the first few race laps, would set his beer down carefully, stand up, wave his 10 gallon hat, and yell "yahoo, A.J.!" every time Foyt drove by. Just as I was thinking that this was going to a very long race, the guy next to him moved the guy's beer over a few inches. The result being that the Foyt fan sat down on the half full wax paper beer cup, crushed it, and was quiet for the rest of the race.

My friends and I would be in the upper right hand corner of those first turn bleachers. They were un-reserved seats. We would wait for hours until they opened the gates. Then we would run for the highest end seats.
My father and uncle, worked the turn one score board. About '64, I made the transition to the scoreboard while my dad and uncle enjoyed cold liquid refreshments.

...and the stands are filled to capacity....now they can't give tickets away to fill the stands....what a shame.
