I understand that his campaign motto is: "We shall over-comb."

I'm kinda puzzled by all this? This is how I see it: You have Trump drive the pace car = more non race fans tuning in plus all of the other media that will follow him. You have an ex driver do it = less non races fans tuning in and no other media. Maybe he'll announce that he will run for office when he is pacing the field to the green flag? I agree with most of the things he says just because I've said the same things for years.

For me the issue is two-fold.
First - it's the 100th anniversary. The pace car driver should be someone with strong ties to the 500 for this event. Any other year would have been a more palatable choice.
Second - Trump is no longer a celebrity, he is now a politician. And my take has always been no possible good can come from inviting politicians to sporting events - the end result that it only alienates half the crowd. The last thing the Indy 500 needs to do for it's 100th anniversary is lend itself as a platform for a presidential campaign.
If you want a high profile celebrity to drive the pace car, then go with Letterman as you will find no celebrity with deeper ties to the 500.

I agree totally and while we're at it, an alternative would be A.J. Foyt or Parnelli Jones driving with A.J. Watson in the front passenger seat.

Well said Michael.
As far as good choices for drivers, this year it is the 20th anniversary of Rick Mears's 4th win and the 50th anniversary of A.J. Foyt's 1st win so those seem like better choices. Maybe let SuperTex pace the field this year and let Mears do the 2016 race (the 100th Indy 500 and 25th anny of win #4)

I am not a fan of "the donald" and I would love to see one of my heros in the seat, but at the end of the day I really don't care who drives the pace car. I will be there to see the race. Take Care Craig

I wouldn't mind seeing Trump put one into the wall. Then we can call it the "Trump Bump!"

DUMP THE TRUMP!!! Put A.J. in the seat. 50th anniversary of his first win, 100th anniversary of the race, a no-brainer. With A.J.'s health, give the guy another trip around the place at the start of this thing. Not some boob with a hair piece that looks like an alien symbiote out of some '50's sci-fi flick with the additional detraction of being a political lightning rod. I predict the "boo birds" will be out when he and his ill-fitting farret piece come buzzing around the track. At least Tony G. had sense enough to stay politically nuetral in regards to Speedway events. And yes, Osama Bin Bye Bye!!! ;D

A lot of people are posting on Izod's facebook page - politely - asking them to pressure IMS to dump trump. Izod says they are seriously looking into the situation. Keep up the pressure!

Trump is out. He is too "busy" to drive the pace car. Word has it that IMS has approached AJ Foyt for the drive.

Texas is now offering Trump the pace car drive there - shameless publicity stunt by TMS, as a former season ticket holder I can say that I am "not amused" Nice spin by Trump's camp... Jordan

I don't know if TMS has the authority to override the series pace car driver.

How about having AJ, Big Al, and Rick line up 3 abreast for the first lap and then have AJ bring them to the flag?

A. J. Foyt has been named to drive the pace car. No word on whether they will be able to get him to pull in!!! It's official but I really like the idea of he, Al and Rick!

I thought it was a no brainer. How do we put the bug in someone's ear at the Speedway?

One step at a time. At least A.J.'s in. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I just e-mailed Bob Kravitz at The Indy Star, we'll see what he thinks.
