This is an almost completed WIP of Parnelli's '57 midget ride. Actually complete save for the decals which I'm waiting on. Scratchbuilt the front nerf bar from .32 and .16 brass rod and wire. My first attempt at playing around with brass wire, so it's not as good as I'd like, but it works. New tie rod from .32 rod as well. I was planning on doing this anyway and it sort of became a necessity when the kit nerf bar broke getting it off the sprue. Fashioned a new head rest when the kit head rest dropped to the floor and vanished. New pipes made with 5/32 K&S aluminim tube and bare metal foil fastened onto the shortened kit pipes. Weathered it up to show the effects of a night of hard dirt service. Used Citadel washes for the weathering. Pretty good stuff. [/img]

Very nice. I've never been brave enough to really go to town dirtying up one of my builds. I guess I'm destined to have a collection of trailer queens. I do especially like what you did with the exhaust there. I thought about putting something on there to make the pipe bigger to match the photo I'm sure you have, but once again decided to leave well enough alone on this one. And I have no idea if I'm right on the blue I used, based on just one b&w photo. The decal instructions said "medium blue" and I used DupliColor Ford Medium Blue, which appears more metallic.

I'll try to post more tomorrow. Somehow, I accidentally figured out how to get the image address in the img thing and haven't been able to do it the last ten times I've tried. Irritating.

I've got First Turn Productions Vol. II midget DVD which shows some of Parnelli's rides. The blue on his cars looked kind of close to "Old Calhoun" blue. I'm just having Greg Holland match the color on mine with a paint chip I sent him.

One more for the road.... The little car was well received. Happy 50th year to Parnelli at IMS!

Yeah, I know it's a dirt car, but it's one of the first rides that he had coming up the ladder.
