One of the most funded teams in the early 80's to never have won a race. Unfortunate since Al Unser was the driver. The Longhorn team changed their design almost all the time. 1980 I like the 1980 car but I like the California 500 car the best which had a yellow and orange scheme plus the car didn't have front wings which was kinda different for indycars. 1981 The 1981 car basically was a Williams FW07 1982 Probably my favorite Longhorn is the 1982 design wich was pretty unique with the side pods and rear wing.

Calvin, How long before you get these in kit form? LOL! ;D On a serious note we had mentioned this on another thread some time ago. A good conversion for the cowling and a turbo charger conversion for the engine would go a long way for the Williams FW07 and the M23 for some 1/20 Indy cars conversions!

Calvin, Yesterday it pretty much rained all day and my back hurt pretty bad, so I spent the day researching, raeding an considering a plan to do the 81 Longhorn based on the Tamiya Williams FW07 kit, so far the only thing that I havent figured out is where to get a Turbo for it. I posted 18 pics, mostly a Ad for the car on race-cars4sale.com that shows the parts laid out removed from the original car, Kinda crappy pictures, but its good reference. Right now I think car has a Chevy or somthing in it....Bummer. Take a look if you want. public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/

Yep, its totally a Williams no doubt about it. great pics. I haven't ever sat down to study the differences but the only thing that looks any different is its Turbo setup. I'd just make my own Turbo kit. Also the rear wing and side pods need to be worked on which is not that big of a deal at all. It also looks like the rear track is a little more narrower with the indycar?
But overall if I were to ever do a F1>Indy conversion this would be the one.

While trying to research this car I kept noticing references to the book Speed, Indy Car Racing, by Chet Jezierski. So I pulled my copy out and WoW. The chassis they build , test and more is the Longhorn 02, The copy of the FW07. Theres some great pics of the tub, engine and suspension so now I guess I dont have an excuse except putting on the So Cal NNL in 5 weeks... next time I go to storage I am pulling out a FW07 and checking it against my research to see where to begin. I am still in need of a 1/20th scale Turbo that will work so I will have to find that. #1 on my list of parts......Chris
