I'm interested in getting my hands on a Tamiya 1/20 Brabham BT46 kit. I see that they issued the clear cowl version (kit 20050) more recently compared to the original kit issued many years ago (kiit 20007). Should I get the clear cowl version and paint it or go with the original kit?

Since I have an original for sale, I say go with that one ! Seriously, I think the quality of the older kits is almost always better, regardless of manufacturer, due to the wear on the molds (less flash). The age of the decals can be a problem, too, but a lot of newer issues don't have all the markings the older ones do (I hate Politically Correct-ness!) but there are always Indycals to fix both of those problems. The only reason I can think of to get the clear-cowl version is if you want to leave part of it clear. I personally hate working with clear plastic as it's always more brittle than the colored. Brian

I have a 1982 Ferrari that is a clear cowl version that I got cheap....the only thing I worry about is if the paint will stick to the different plastic without any sort or long term problems. So with that said I'd go with the normal one.....just for the peace of mind.

I've built the clear-cowl BT-46 and it was just like any other Tamiya kit... went to gether quick and easy with no problems. The cool thing is it come with tranlucent decals as well as the regular ones. I've also built the clear cowl Toyota GT-1. I painted it half clear/half red. A word of warning: Tamiya paint attacks the clear plastic. Ask me how I know? This is painted with Testors MM bright red. No long term problems yet.
