Converting a Carousel 1 Vukey Eagle into Dick Simons 1973 Travelodge Eagle. The unique thing about Dick's car is that it didn't run an Offy engine. Dick stuffed a 4 CAM Ford in it instead! So... I took the car apart, stripped it and installed a Foyt 4 CAM Ford in it. First I had to modify the upper body. The car ran two oil coolers on each side of the car as well so I had to cut out a duct on the right side for the additional oil cooler. [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS01.jpg" img] Test fitting the Ford 4 Cam engine [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS02.jpg" img] Next I scratch built the right side oil cooler from sheet plastic. [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS03.jpg" img] Detailing the Ford Cam 4 with scratch built manifolds. [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS04.jpg" img] [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS05.jpg" img] [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS06.jpg" img] About 90% done. Have to scratch build the roll bar, add some more wiring and detail the driver figure. More to come [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/73DS08.jpg" img]

That's going to look sweet when done! I guess no one ever told you die-cast guys that plastic and resin cut, sand & glue easier! And I'm glad!

Ha! You may be right Brian. I love plastic & resin too but to me 1/18th scale is where my love is right now.

Really nice job Stu! I can still remember Dick Simon running that car at Pocono in 73. I believe I posted it in the "General Section" of the site some time ago. I'm sure Dick would be proud of your rendition! Super Sweet!
