Can anyone provide any suggestions for detailing, or areas requiring corrections, on the old Heller Brabham F1 kit? Thanks, Rick

Rickh, check at www.gurneyflap.com, you'll find good pictures about this and others F1 cars from the past. Cheers. Alex

As a Brabhamologist I really feel the model o'all is very good (EXCEPT the damn tires). Get some Model Factory Hiro tires and they will look great! Also, detail the oil plumbing as it sticks right out there! Let me know which color scheme you do. I'm looking for the right turquoise to do the early car. Luck on the Gov's car!

Thanks, Patrick. This is a smidgen later than the period I really love, and as far as I'm concerned, Brabhams should be green and gold.
But I must bow to the facts and it seems that by 1970, these BT33s ran in that blue and yellow. So, I was expecting something like ModelMaster French Blue. But I am envisioning blue, rather than turquoise, so I must not be seeing those colors correctly.
Wha? Turquoise? Have you a better suggestion? By chance do you think there is a Tamiya color that is more appropriate?
Thanks, Rick

Black jack is one of my guys. He ran a BT24 in the Tasman that was a turquoise and gold car. Then, back in F1 the cars ran green and gold! I haven't been able to find out why. I know that the BT3 debuted as a turquoise/gold car.

I uploaded 27 pics of the BT33 on my Fotki site that include the Blue and Yellow car as run at Goodwood and also the 1970 car that was White.. If you are looking for an optional paint scheme.. public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/ Gurneyflap probably has me beat though when it comes to close up detail shots..Chris

Thanks, Chris! Those are some terrific photos. I was never aware of the white scheme, and looking at the various numbers and white/blue combinations, it looks as though it appeared that way several times.
I've been told that the F1 cars of this generation used plain white as a primer-sort of thing, and I wonder if that was the story here.
Thanks a bunch! Rick

I was kinda wondering about this as it ran at a bunch of races Germany, France, Spa and more some with Blue sides and some with Green maybe a transitional car, it is interesting in White though...Chris

Don't forget about the South African BT33 in Luckies and Gunstons!

PS You can always turn one into a BT32-Offy Indy car with little modification.

PS You can always turn one into a ... How about the BT35? I'm seeing a number of photos of them on the web, and am especially taken with a BT35 at the Tasman Revival a few years ago, This one id blue with a Buick V-8. At any rate, I want to get this BT33 built more or less out of the box to get a feel for the Heller open wheel cars. Besides the Lotus 49 and the McLaren M-7, there is a F2 or F3 that seems to be about as scarce as hen's teeth. I'm pretty sure I had one in one of the AMT double (Heller) kits when I was a kid, and I have one now in a Union box, but I don't think I have seen a Heller box of that Heller kit. musing...

I have the FIII by Union and started to build it, great box stock build by the way, but got nervous and stopped because it is so fragile, the chassis and suspension parts are so thin and can easily break if not careful. I will get back to it sometime, I brought it home from storage and was considering it a few days back. GREAT KIT!!! Chris
