I wasn't sure if I should do a model for this build since I don't have the skills the rest of you do. But I'll do one anyway and hopefully it will come out OK. I'm in the process of removing parts from the trees and cleaning them up for paint. I've decided to strip the chrome off of most of the parts for several reasons. The wing end plates have ejector pin marks that need to be cleaned up. Also the suspension pieces have mold lines that need to be rounded off to look right. Not sure what I'll spray those pieces with yet. I'm thinking most sprint car wings are polished aluminum, so I might try to BMF those pieces.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. You are definately doing things right by cleaning up those little imperfections that others overlook!

My first two models that I did since I was a kid were both Monogram sprint cars. The first one was the 2002 Kinser model and I decided to build it just to pass the time, but hadn't really made model building a hobby. Every tool I had, including glue and paint, were Testors bought at Michael's. It didn't turn out too bad, considering what I was working with.
About five years later, though, I dove in and decided to make this a bonafide hobby, started buying good tools, and studied everything I could get may hands on, from magazines to the internet (the greatest resource). The first thing I did was get another sprint car to see how much I could improve on it.
Like you plan to do, I stripped all the chrome and refinished the parts with Alclad chrome and polished aluminum, including the wing. It worked out well, because you can not only get rid of those sink marks in the side board, but also remove the seam in the front and rear if you want to.
It took me a looong time to finish that second sprinter, mostly because I made so many mistakes that I had to do things two and three times. (Thank goodness for the purple pond!)
Can't wait to see yours!

Any problem areas I should watch out for??? Only that it's so delicate. The front axle and radius rods can be pretty fragile. And don't forget to put in the jacobs ladder at the right time like I did! I forgot about it and adding it after the rear suspension was in was pretty tough.

You have my attention. Nice start. Can't wait to see how the bmf works out for the wing. Sounds like a good idea.

Actually Art, I put it in last and had no problem. I left it out because I wasn't sure which way was up. Then after the suspension was together, I used a pair of tweezers to put it in. So, obviously the rear suspension is on. And yes it is quite delicate. I'm surprised that I was able to get it together despite my fumbling.
