I have been studying and comparing the Etzel Kuzma Offy replica against the unit out of the MPC Rislone Eagle. The Etzel is a bit larger both in height and length than the MPC. (The detail on the Etzel blows them all away) I have yet to compare the Etzel to the AMT Watson engine or the Monogram Kurtis blob...Any insight? Who do you believe got the sizing the most accurate? Anybody know the actual dimensions of an Offenhauser 1:1 engine? Of course we are talking about the basic unit (block/head, camcovers, front cover and oil pan) here.
Thanks! Bill H

Hey Dr. Dave!!!!!!!!!
Bob Clindinst would get madder than hell at me when I would say or write, "How I liked the old AMT Watson Roadster kit." He would fume for a week after I said or wrote that. One night, in his living room he threw a 1/25 scale drawing of the Offy and a micrometer at me and asked, "How is it accurate??!?!" Well.......It isn't. Chris' came the closest to being spot-on. A great kit inside a great kit!
The Offy in the old Watson Roadster kits is just there to hang an exhaust pipe to. That old kit has demons galore!!! But, if you love that car like I do, you tend to overlook it's short-comings.
Now with Lance doing a conversion kit for it, that tired old kit will see a new rebirth of popularity. And...if the rumor I hear is true....(hiny, hint, hint, hint.) Some parts will be available for earlier Watson's too. Life is grand!
Best to you
Russ

I have had a small chance to study the 4 versions of the 1/25 scale Offy in my possession and have made a few discoveries. Comparing the Etzel to the Monogram, AMT and MPC/Rislone here.
1. The AMT is (as previously stated) way too small...(in every aspect it seems) although there is some decent detail. Perhaps it would be more accurate for a 1/32 model! 2. The MPC/Rislone is almost the correct length but a good bit too short(oil pan to cam covers) top to bottom. 3. The Monogram is actually the closest overall and it looks like if you glued the cam covers of the Rislone onto the top side of the Monogram(after a bit of sanding on the top of the block) you would be within catwhisker of having the same size replica as the Etzel is. Of course the covers are a bit too short for it to be a simple addition) Also, if that could be done (or better yet a set of covers mastered and cast to retro-fit to the Monogram) you would have a decent piece to use for you Kurtis builds.
Please feel free to check it out and elaborate if willing...
Respectfully, Bill H

Have you ever checked out the Offy from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland ? I've got one to do the Rislone conversation of the Olsenite car along with the correct tires that they also sell. I've often wondered if this was just a repop of the MPC Offy or did they do their own master of the engine.

Kitbash,
Actually, I have checked the Rislone kit Offy with the RM&M unit. They are one in the same, the only difference being that the MPC Rislone has a multi-piece block whereas the RM&M is more of a solid casting...Otherwise identical dimension-wise...
