I just got this 1/12 WR1 today! Its my first 1/12 build in 5 years! I dont know why I haven't done more of these 1/12 scales because the last one I did was the 1979 Ferrari and I had a blast (fun) with that one. Here are some of the details of the kit that I find interesting: Before I got this kit I was hopping the decals would match Tamiya's TS 21 Gold spray paint and IMO it sure does! After comparing the decal gold to my Miller Penske that I did a year ago with TS21 (from the angle I took the picture, the decal gold has a different shade from my paint job but in real life, to my eyes its a match) The decals seem pretty good. (this pic was taken under artificial light) The part I was most surprised about are the "Badyear" Logos on the tires? Also comes with the normal hoses, wire, Belts and Springs! I also get a kick out of the "new" Mirrors that Tamiya have put in there new/reissue kits. P/E parts are always nice to have! But overall everything looks good.

I have always painted the gold on a Wolf and then use the blue numbers. It is an easy mask job. However the blue numbers are not included in the 1/20 version.

Sheeezzzeee Calvin, I'm disappointed you're taking a little long to build this one!!!! LOL!! ;D I know, I've been screwing around a lot the past few months. But seriously I needed to do something easy to make myself happy. The last few weeks I really have been getting burnt out on the resin casting - I needed to take a break and help my state of mind.....as we all know if you dont have the right mind set during building - things come out like crap.

Another terrific build, Calvin. ;D
Just curious, in your photos, the paint looks just about black (at least viewing on my computer at work). Is the Tamiya dark blue really that dark, or just a trick of the camera?
Either way, a super job you did there.

Calvin, did you prime this or spray it right over the bare plastic? The color looks really Dark? Chris

No, I just did my normal paint procedure. I used Tamiya White Primer, then sprayed TS55 and thats it. It looks dark because my camera doesn't take good pics of any kind of blue.

Great, fast work Calvin. Well done. I don't ever remember seeing the Tamiya decal on the real car, I could be wrong. Also, it is possible the car isn't black, but an extremely dark blue/black. I've seen the restored car and it was the blue/black. Again, I could be wrong. None the less, great job!

TS55 is a very dark blue that Tamiya came out with for a mid-90s re-iusse of the WR1. I believe Tamiya sponsorship would have been on the car in the Japanese GP only.
