As we all know the tires produced for those older AMT kits (Gould Charge, Norton Spirit, etc) were awful. I contacted Norm at Replicas & Miniatures to see if he'd ever made replacements for these. I was somewhat surprised when he said he hadn't, but I was very surprised when he said I was the only person that has ever asked him about them. Where do you guys get tires for these? Do you all get upgrade kits from Bill J? I told Norm to put a post on our forum to see if anyone besides me is interested in this. I'd like to be able to buy an upgrade kit for all the old kits I have but money is an issue at some point. (I want to many of Bill & Lance's kits as it is.) Please give me your 2 cents worth on this. Thanks.

What did Norm say when you suggested he put a post on this site? I've heard he "doesn't trust" computers which is why he doesn't have a website. I'm with you, it would be great to have some nice tires for the AMT Gould/Norton series of kits from one of the resin guru's. Sandy

Welllllll, if Norm doesn't like computers, how about if any forum members that are interested get ahold of Norm and ask him about doing some of these? I could use as many as eight sets myself.

I always hated putting those two parters together and would be interested in some. At the very least I have a McLaren I bought on a popular internet auction site that came with only one front and one rear tire, and I'd like a complete set.

I told Norm he was highly regarded on this site. I think anyone interested should contact him and show him how much we appreciate him and ask about these tires. ReplMinCoMd@aol.com We need to keep Norm and Bill and Lance and others to stay busy so we don't lose them.

I am thinking that I could use 4-5 sets (at least) for builds I have planned.

I would be in for 4 sets also. I hate those two piece tires. If this thread keeps going, Lance may end up producing more tires than Goodyear!

Hey Lance, with all th crap the tire companies are giving Shabo etc., can you cast them with Goodyear on them or supply decals for'em? I live in Akron and both companies have made the city jump thru hoops to try and keep them in town. You'd think that would keep them busy enough to leave modelers alone!

2LapsDown...
You'd think they'd be happy with a little "free" publicity? I guess not. I remember the big flap over the Monogram 1/48 B-17 kit and how Boeing didn't want the companies name on the box unless they got paid for it. So Monogram just called it the "Flying Fortress B-17" kit. Silly right? Almost as bad as all of the NASCAR kits that had beer sponsorship decals because parents groups though "junior" would want to crack open a can of suds when building th kit?!?!.....I guess sniffing glue never crossed their mind?
I was good friends with former JDL President Irv Ruben who one night, at dinner went on a tirade about German WW2 models having "swastikas" in them until I pointed out all the "real" aircraft had them painted on the tail and what was worse, an accurate model with two swastikas on the decal sheet or me going out and buying a WHOLE SHEET OF THEM to make my model historically accurate? At that point, Irv said...."Lets have more wine." Which we did and he agreed it was silly.
Best to you!
Russ

I seem to recall some kind of backlash against Big Al's Johnny Lightning sponsorship back in the seventies. Something about toys appearing on dangerous cars or some such baloney. You know what they say, 99% of the lawyers give the rest of them a bad name!!
