While at i-hobby expo today in Chicago had a chance to talk with one of the powers that be at Greenlight. He did confirm that they will be doing 1/18th Indy cars next year. They should be released sometime in March. They will be doing the 2010 Dario winner along with several of the teams. They will also be doing an all white car for autographs or to be used to do conversions by people like us. The only bad thing is that they will not be updating the molds. They will be the same ones that they used for the last round of cars they did with the removeable engine covers with the tire ramps and the sidepod extenders. Even the all white cars will have the ramps and the extenders.
Now for the bigger news. They will be doing the new cars for 2012, and are looking at doing some older cars in the future. When I say older cars I am not talking about Dallaras and Panozs either.

So I assume the old molds also means the incorrectly placed front wings?
Good news on the 2012 and the 'older' cars too!

Yep...incorrectly placed front wings and wrong camera pod. He said with only one year left on this chassis cycle and gearing up for the new cars it was not in the best intrests to invest money to update the molds...but hey...we are getting 1/18th cars back.He did also say that they would not be doing 1/64th cars as Mattel still has that size locked up. He did not know if Hotwheels would be doing the cars in 1/24 anymore either. He did give me his card to stay in touch though.

While I am fairly bummed that there won't be any body mods, I understand thier thinking. Why spend all that money to revamp the molds for just one year. I have been doing the mods myself for so long it seems kind of natural anyway.
Even the 2012 cars will need mods because not everyone is going to run the same stuff.
Some older cars, eh? We could have something here!
