Does anyone know if anybody has put together a 1:20 or 1:18 driver figure to fit any era of Indy die cast available (Carousel, Minichamp, Action etc)? I know some come with what is perceived to be drivers figures (ugly pieces of plastic with oversized crash helmets stuck on top), but I was wondering if anyone has taken moulds of any of the excellent Exoto driver figures or any of the early plastic drivers from vintage Aurora, Pagco etc plastic toys?

I constantly look for new and different figures and modify them into the look I want. GMP makes some nice standing figures such as Tommy Evo, Mark Donohue, & Don Garlits. Someone also produced a bunch of NASCAR figures in 1/18th scale and sold them as Christmas ornaments and I use and modify those as well. Below are some of the figures I have made. The 1st is an Arie figure. I used the GMP Don Garlits figure and lots of putty to make his long hair. I also chopped his right arm off and repositioned it so Arie is waving. 2nd figure is Lloyd Ruby. I modified a GMP open faced helmet and put it on a Greenlight seated figure and then put him in my C1 Eagle conversion. Adding stuff like realistic seat belts really set it off. The last figure is one of those Nascar X-Mas ornaments. I used the head off a Greenlight Helio and made uniform decals to have Helio standing with arms folded. I found that if you want to have a neat one of a kind figure you just have to use your imagination and sometimes mix & match. Here is a better picture of my Lloyd Ruby Commander with the cover on. I think a nice figure really makes the car. 2nd picture is my C1 Bobby Unser winner that I added a figure to also. Those all look good but.... I have to say Lloyd Ruby looks GREAT!! A member here sent me a figure for my Carousel 1 March 84C, as he said: I have the figure and I have to say that it is a sharp looking guy. Now I just need to make up some driver decals to go on this figure. Should be a useful project as I'd like to resize the decals to 1/25 to go with my (eventual) vacuform build of the '84 winner. You never can have too many Mears cars after all!!! LOL I also have a Minichamps 1/18 F1 driver figure that would be useful for an Indy build but I am using it to go with a sportscar diecast conversion (can I mention something with fenders here? lol jk). IIRC it is of Eddie Irvine when we was a Ferrari shoe. Good stuff guys, what else to you all use? Jordan

Exoto figures are very nice too. Some have the figures climbing out of the car but I have never seen the figures offered by themselves. Here are a few more of mine. The GMP Don Garlits looks a lot like Mario so I made a 69 figure to go with my Ertl Brawner Hawk. The GMP Mark Donohue was also done but repainted in his 72 Indy uniform. The figure originally has an open face helmet but I modified it to be closed. Lastly is my modified Minichamps 93 Lola backdated to Dick Simons 87 Lola. Used a Greenlight figure and modified the helmet to look like a Simpson one. Drop me a line. I can supply several resin driver figures in different positions. My resin guy has done a copy of the Jackie Stewart climbing out of the Tyrrell 001 Exoto figure with open helmet & face. You can use this for 70's cars. 80's, 90's and todays cars are covered. Take a look at my homepage for my figure-creations: www.indyfan007.comI also always try to find new figures. Italian company Top Model just released a lot of F1 drivers but those are very costly to convert. We are trying to grab each of the different driver poses and make copies.

Indyfan, I went to your site, great work!
My question is how do you remove the driver in the Greenlight diecast indycars? I dont want to damage it.
And Indy, do you make decals or templates for driver helmets and suits?

danicafan - there is a screw on the bottom of the car that holds the figure in place. You can't damage it, just unscrew it and remove.

Thanks! Like I said- drop me a line (through my site). I can supply all kinds of driver figures in different positions. Also resin copies of the Exoto figures & helmets which are matching the 70's IndyCars of Carousel.
