Hello, Its been awhile since I've been here, my new job has kept me going, and I've been distracted by some NASCAR stuff. Anyway, to my question. I have a set of Indycals' Hopkins Special decals. My question is pretty broad. What do I need to do to change the Monogram Kurtis into a good representation of this car? By that, how far off are the kit wheels and tires and if not, what wheels would be? What kind of work in the cockpit do I need? And, what kind of paint and what shade of blue and what primer would be correct? I hope this is not an annoying or obvious question, I am trying to get this as right as I can. I look at this as a long term project of sorts. Thank you for your help!

Okay 61redlegs...here it goes! mb2501.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=4162&action=display&thread=72Checkout the 1941-1962 section of this forums history or click on the url above. This topic has been covered before. The very first thing you'll need is Bob Clidinst excellent drawings of this car. A must for anyone who wants to build it! Like my Hinkle Special I built from the good old Monogram kit. Take your time and start cutting once you have Bob's drawings. The color blue is a Chrysler Color popular at the time. As for primer, I use Dupi-Color Scratch filling gray. As for wheels and tires, those are coming shortly...but the first thing you need is Bob;'s drawings on the car and that will help! Best to you! Thank you for your quick response, I found Mr. Clindist's address, so I will send a letter to him for a list of drawings.
I apologize for not seeing the original thread, thanks again!!!

HI Chris, Sorry I haven't been around here much lately, nor even at Randy's much. I hope things are going great! I have the '55 Vukovich car ready for paint (been that way for at least a year) and it is built from the Monogram kit, of course. Filling the side of the cockpit, changing a few vents here and there, and reversing the exhaust are the main changes, and not difficult at all. I did not opt for a open hood, so that made the exhaust change very simple. Actually, these old Kurtis Indy cars are much easier to do (as far as the more common cars go) than what I am used to doing in my Dark Side modeling! I have been faithfully waiting about 2 years for good tires/wheels................. Mongo
