Well, not as far along as Russ' but here's my 1957 Novi driven by Tony Bettenhausen. Hope to get it cleared this weekend so I can begin detail painting. Having a time with the wheels as I can't get the right "magnesium" look. Paints look great until they are on the wheels and then the "grain" looks out-of-scale. Any suggestions? Brian

I like to use a 50/50 mix of gold and silver ( preferably humbrol paints , no.16 gold and no.11 silver). Lance

A side note on the leather interior , the interior is actually a brown color , not black as it often appears in old color or black and white photos, color balance in old prints and films can be very deceiving . Testors military brown 1701 is a good base color , or something in that area . After the base color is applied I like to dry brush 2 progressively lighter layers to get a "leather look" , blending with oil paints is another option for leather interiors . Lance

Brian...
LOOKS GREAT!!!!!! Makes me think I'll need to do one when I'm finished with the 1956 version. As for the interior color, I try my best to go by the old "Dynamic" films shot on race day for color and decal placement. Doak Ewing has had all those films color digitally redone and you can't get any more accurate than films shot on race day. Also, those are great films, although some of the music stinks!
Doesn't Lance do great work? This kit is a must for all Indy Car fans!
Best to you
Russ

Well, here it is, warts and all! I wanted to show an up-close pic of the dash, tried a new technique to simulate the engine-turned look but my crappy old camera won't focus in! Please don't tell me what settings to use as it's so old it doesn't have settings - LOL! I'll try to get better pics sometime, I guess I'll have to buy a new camera first. Brian

Thanks Sandy & Russ! It was a fairly easy build, suspension was a little fiddly. Russ - I used some 20+ year old Testors #1208 Blue out of the spray can, seemed a little dark to me. Can't remember if I used white or light gray primer. Wish I could get some close up pics of the seat and dash, I did some P/E gauge bezels and seatbelt hardware, looks pretty good if I do say so! If it ever gets re-issued, I might pick up another and do Russo's '56 car.

If I can get at least 10 or more commitments to buy , I will do another run of the Novi's. If there is enough intrest it will take about a month to get it up and running again (would need to order metal parts and make new molds) . Lance

Put my name on the list also, Lance. Got to see this car run at the Speedway when I was 6 years old, and I'll never forget the sound it made. Nice build Brian. It's looks just like I remember it looking Tom T.

ps hey lance, if you get close to 10 committals don't forget ebay is your friend as that's where i first found out about you! db

late to the party by a few years. LOL GREAT BUILD 'herk'!!! I got my Lance Sellers Resin Novi this week via Tim Jones. the kit made it from Lances place to Texas and back to Indy, just a few blocks from where it originated. small world. Tim supplied me with the #27 Bettenhausen decals but I haven't decided for sure if that's what I want to make. any suggestions? of course the availability of decals for it would be the deal maker.

thanks 'racer'......I had been on their site, but what I kind of decided on was the #54 Russo car from '57. didn't see the #54 but "upon further review", I found them! no pics but I found where I can select the #27 OR the #54. I'll order the Russo decals and then I'll have both to choose from.
thanks for making me go back and LOOK! LOL Kevin

Thanks Sandy & Russ! It was a fairly easy build, suspension was a little fiddly. Russ - I used some 20+ year old Testors #1208 Blue out of the spray can, seemed a little dark to me. the color I had in my head for this car was an old Pactra color, something like a Robin's Egg Blue (don't know the exact name) but if my memory serves me correct, it was lighter than the Testors by a couple shades. anyway, that's what I'm shooting for on mine. thanks so much for posting the pics of YOUR Novi as it will really help me with mine. I'm just getting back into the hobby after a 10+ year hiatus and found that I'm a bit rusty on a lot of things. OMG...prices of stuff: a can of Model Masters paint? nearly $7.00!!! WOW! hope I can afford this hobby! might be cheaper for me to stick to doing crack!!! LOL (really, I AM kidding!!! )
