I started to name this: "DANG YOU CALVIN!" All "THE MACHINE'S" talk of the M23 and I HAD to fix/finish this kit... Still some work to do... Patrick; Have you ever tried one of these (Marui) kits? Tim

Yes, I did. I did one as an experiment to see how fast I could do one. It took me 10 hours...if I recall correctly. A good kit with a horrible Cosworth and Hewland! They had to have that damned Mabuchi motor inside the engine to hide it. But it went together simply enough. Wish I had one to go with the 312T I've been able to keep and a second 312 I'm converting to T2 specs. I loved those years with their high intakes and great drivers.

Cakvin; Here's another... Not the most accurate of kits, but it sure fills a spot in my F1 collection... As Mr.Salee pointed out, one of the most significant F1 cars of all time... I can hardly wait for the "Rush: movie... Thanks for looking!

Love your models. I'm not an expert on McLarens, but I'd like to hear about some of the inaccuracies of the kit. I'm approaching the M23 from a slightly different take...a Hong Kong rip-off of the Mauri kit only with a '73 scoop. It is on the back burner for now, but an easy modification.

Calvin: I have officially changed your nickname from "The Machine" to "Cakvin"...it has a nice ring to it! Seriously, old fat fingers hit the K instead of the L...glad you're back! Kind regards, Tim

Patrick: In answer to your question, the only inaccuracies seem to be in the engine size and transmission. Perhaps Calvin (aka "Cakvin") can enlighten us, or someone else who has built one. I appreciate the kind words... Tim

Ah...that damnable Mabuchi-madness problem. Just carefully slice-dice-n-glue a new engine from the old parts. That's what I'm doing.

I have a couple of these kits from a very long time ago, one I built in Yardley colours and one still unbuilt. I was wondering if it was worth using the engine and gearbox from a Heller kit, if so I may consider casting the Heller pieces in resin, or is the rest of the kit too far off with its very thick plastic to not be worth while?

Dear El Kiwi Volador,
I strongly feel the Heller engine has total casting value and can easily be adapted to the Mauri M23. The kit o'all is quite good and builds into a nice example. You can cast? Then don't go my method of slice/dice n glue! Too much effort.
