Okay... I bought this "glue bomb" on e-bay a few months ago. I have started to sand off the paint and scribe panel lines. Next is primer, scratch build an interior and re-do tires and wheels thanks to Herb Deeks. The only thing uglier than seeing Rosanne Barr naked (yuck) is British WW2 Aircraft and early F-1 Cars. The Vanwalls were ugly, but so ugly they were cute. I would have loved to drive one! Best to you! Russ

Wow, you're on a roll. I really like buying the glue bombs on eBay. In fact, the PC-18 that I'm working on currently is a reworked glue bomb. That cockpit looks like its going to be a considerable amount of work.

Hi Russ,
No doubt this one will be great once you have finished with it.
Herb's wheel inserts are very good for these old models, aren't they? Bill <><

Well, Russ you got a good bomb to work on. I, too, love getting these bombs on Ebay and restoring them to glory. I think it's more challenging. I'm glad you took "before" and take "after" photos. Show me what to do( so I will start to work on my Vanwall).

Does anyone else use the "water & freezer" trick to disassemble their glue-bombs? Soak the car in water and pop into the freezer, the water soaks into the small spaces in the glue joints and expands as it freezes to push things apart. Works pretty well, usually less damage than the old pry apart method. And yes, Russ, please keep us posted on your progress!

HI Brian,
I have never tried it, but I am sure I will one day. So far, soaking everything in CSC when I begin has worked for *most* jobs. The CSC will release the old tube glue most of the time.

Castrol Super Clean, now know only as Super Clean (some other co. bought it from Castrol, I think). Also known affectionately as the "Purple Pond"! Comes in a galon container like anti-freeze, Wal-Mart carries it as well as most autoparts stores, great for paint stripping, not compatible with resin.

I love the water idea. It's natural and uses ice erosion as the teaching factor. (We teachers never pass up a chance to teach to the moment!)Non-Chem is healthy for me.

This shot alone of Sterling Moss power sliding the Vanwall during the 1958 Moroccan Grand Prix made me want to build this sucker! I would have loved to drive one of these ugly beasts!!! I love the old cars! Best to you Russ

Great job, Russ! Never can tell what a *glue bomb* will turn out like, and this one is nice.
How are you doing your dashes?? And what color green is that??

Duane,
So you won that one? GOOD!!! Have fun with it. I won one of those also and that is going to be my next project after I finish Lance's beautiful 56 Novi that I have been working on since forever. I'm not as fast as I used to be.
"Glue-Bombs" are fun and an easy and inexpensive way to add to your collection of old race cars. They also can be great for spare parts as well. It's neat to take something that is okay and turn it into something nice as well.
Best to you
Russ

Hi ya Mongo!!!!!!!!
The green is just Dupi-Color Dark Green...it's the closest to "British Racing Green" I could find, and it's cheap too.
As for the dash....all I do is take a piece of thin sheet brass and cut it to size. Then I drill holes in it where the gages should go and then I take a piece of ever-green sheet plastic and mark where the gages should go, take Fred Cady or old WW2 aircraft dash gages and put them into place. Not hard, but time consuming though. Anyone can do it!
Best to you
Russ

Hi Russ,
I've been in Turkey for a month and It's nice to see your finished Vanwall. I'll have to get back into building again and finish my Vanwall glue bomb! I'm going to have a wabbly wheel version. What did you use for the "Vanwall" signage?
