Just a quick pic of the 1949 Alfa Romeo 159 F1 model I built a while back, It is a Merit kit with Herb Deeks wire wheels and other than that is box stock. It has appeared in Model Cars and Scale Auto magazines. Chris

Chris....
Nice Alfa!!! I've seen this up close and some really good things can be built from those OLD MErit Kits. I love the old F-1.
Best to you!

Hi Chris, Well, Mr Nit-Pick or Nit-Wit here. I know Herb's wheels look great and his tires are very nice for Engleberts on the D50, but on the 158/159 both seem small. I think the evolution of the racing tire had already begun and the tire profile if not the wheel size had been already reduced. That said...it sure looks great! Patrick

The kit tires and wheels were way too tall not to mention hard plastic, I tried several different sets and these were the most acurate appearing of all.. not too many 1959 F1 tires and wheels out there right now.. Anyway I really like the result, Chris

Based on this picture/illustration I felt the tires and wheels are pretty spot on.... Chris

This one is a nice looking build ;D and I'm not just saying that because I think so much of Fangio - he's on the short list of guys I wished I could have watched race!

I got to see JMF at the first LBGP...he drove a Mercedes 163. Such a cool sound! I also had him sign the underside of my Merit 158 when he was at Alfa's Laguna Historics many seasons ago...wish I still had that little Merit kit.
Patrick
PS...Indy, that is one distorted illustration, but Chris is right about settling for tires. I couldn't find the correct Alfa wheel diameter, but what about Heller's Lago?
