So what are m options if I want a 2010 Indy Lotus. Is there anything that might be converted without to much work?

an F60... the effort will be according the acuracy you want. Given the Lotus is bulkier, plastic and putty would do. Depending on your skills.

Well maybe for an Formula 1 car but I doubt that the F60 is a good start for the Indy car

You can use ether a Bill Jorgensen resin Dallara or get one of the Hot Wheels die-casts

Thanks for the tip. I got my self one of the Hot Wheels die-cast but this project is fighting me real bad. I managed to remove the sponsor markings but not the pint but when I put on a coat of primer it reacted with the paint so I could peal off large chunks of paint. I sanded down what i couldn't remove and started over. The primer went on OK this time. I decided to paint the yellow parts on the car so I tried a coat of yellow. No luck this time. It didn't come on smoothly. LOT of pores in the finish so more sanding. I had planned for a simple repaint but now I got angry. Since I needed to sand down the paint I decided to remove an antenna and some lumps on the nose. I started to draw decals for it an decided to make most of the yellow as decals instead. Now for the next set back. My eight year computer said good bye. The hard disks are fine so nothing is lost but the computer will not start. I now haw a new computer but it isn't compatible with the printer so I can not print the decals. So now I must hunt down an old computer. Now the wheels are starting to annoy me. I could not find a Hot Wheel model in Europe so I got one from E-Bay i USA. I thought they all were the same but looking at pictures it seems like the red Target car has different wheels, so that is the one I should have bought instead. But this is what I manged to draw sofar. Printed on a standard printer on cheap paper so it is a bit course. Björn B

Very nice! I'm working on my first open wheel decals now, too. It is quite the adventure!!

I started on the paint job now. I decided to try to paint the yellow on the nose instead of using a decal. I sprayed the yellow and masked it. Now I have painted the whole car black. I also tried to print the decals: Now on to mask the black stripes. Björn

It will be the base coat for the green. I painted some plastic spoons. One green on a grey base and the second green on a black base so that I could compare the shades of green.

If you have never seen this car up close, it is NOT normal British Racing Green. It's very, very metallic, BRG on steroids!!

I guess this is now in the wrong group. It shoult perhaps be in the die cast group, but since I started it here I thought I should continue. I have now put on the first layer of metallic green. I have never seen or will see the real car in person so I will not try to replicate the true color. I rather want it to look as the pictures I've seen. Otherwise I will always look at it and get the feeling it is wrong. Perhaps not the right attitude for a model builder but I build for my satisfaction not anybody else. A note about the decals. Michael has earkier mentioned the problems doing decals for the Lotus. Printing the yellow stripes will make the yellow color on the air intake hard to match painting. On the other hand masking and painting the stripes gives another problem. The green body color surrounds the Bosch, Honda and Lotus markings on the nose and that is tricky to mask. I tried to print the surrounding in metallic green instead. It will probably not be the right shade of green but will save me work. Björn

I was just looking at the color on this car yesterday while watching last weeks race again, indeed a unique shade of metallic green... I was thinking a base of BRG followed by a several coats of custom mix metallic green but so far yours looks pretty good...Chris

Removing the masking tape is always interesting. How much went wrong this time? I need to do some touch ups on the yellow, but it went better than I had expected. Well I did forget to paint the camera so I had to paint some yellow anyway. The rest of the build goes to the right forum: mb2501.proboards.com/thread/2160/2010-lotus-finishedBjörn

This turned out well. Glad to see someone taking on the current cars. Good luck. Sorry about all the trouble printing decals. I need to learn how to do that.
