I am currently building Hideka Mutoh's 2010's Indy ride but trying something I have never attempted before. Since the car is for a team member, I decided that I wanted to make the car as accurate as I possibly could. I made the usual modifications such as moving the front wing back, body flares, wicker bill and windscreen and it will eventually get new mirrors and camara. But... I decided that I wanted to recreate the air escapes back by the rear aero. This is not an easy task as the metal is very thick in this area of the diecast. After using my dremel and 10 or so cutting discs, below is the result of the left rear air escape. It was built up and modified using sheet plastic. That's some great work!! Diecast metal is not an easy medium to modify - keep the updates coming on this one.

Stu,
What works best for stripping the graphics?, Paint? Can you strip the graphics on C-1 cars with out hurting the paint?

Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover gets the graphics and not the paint. It isn't always perfect but it is the best I have found - got the tip on another forum.

Hey Tom,
To strip the car completely I use "ZIP" strip poured into a plastic spray bottle and spray it on. I found you use less stripper when you do this instead of submerging it.
To removed graphics from a C1 car without damaging the paint, use Finger Nail Polish Remover and lots of Q-Tips. It will take the grafhic off and not hurt the paint. But...!!! This only works on the diecast metal parts. Finger Nail Polish Remover (full strength) will remove the paint on the C1 plastic parts such as the wings. Make sure you dilute the remover with some water. It will take you longer to remove the grafhic (and more Q-Tips) but it won't remove the paint. Dulls it a bit on the plastic pieces but a wax will bring the shine back.

Here is my finished 1/18th 2010 Hikeki Mutoh. Sorry it wasn't an actual wip that showed step by step but after all the mods were done there wasn't much to show after that. Used a mix Indycals & my own decals to finish her.
